I was a flat Earther for a while. I went sailing to try and find the edge of the Earth and everything.

But in the end, I came around.

If the earth is supposedly round, why did my wife leave me

Weird Fact: The Cult of Pythagora drowned the mathematician Hippasus for proving that √2 is irrational.

of course it was some bloke in the Victorian era that started this. The amount of pseudo science that comes from that time is truly amazing

that is wild how Pythagoras died. My grandfather hated green beans as well, glad he wasn't brutally murdered

The only flat Earth I will fight strangers on the internet for has four elephants and a turtle flying it through space.

Belief in the earth been flat is not harmless as it leads to more harmful ideas.

I know a woman who, on a second date, learned the guy was an actual flat earther. It was naturally not followed up with any more dates.

Misread the title as "Defending the flat earth theory" and wondered if Mother Moocake had finally lost it
Thank god it's just me being blind as a bat

9:00 Takes me back to my childhood where nobody told me why it was called that, so my kid brain assumed that a dark age was where everyone was stumbling around in some eternal nighttime.

3:20 “The earliest humans would’ve probably assumed the world is flat.” That’s the thing, they probably wouldn’t have. When you work with geographic information systems you realize looking at the same geographic feature from two different heights and locations has weird impacts on how the thing looks. When you’re on top of a mountain, your village looks further away than when you’re on a plain far away from it. If you’re trying to locate things by view, you have to come to the conclusion the earth is round. The “sphere earth” idea didn’t come from Pythagoras, it has been around since the beginning of humanity. It’s also a concept that’s included in a LOT of indigenous cultures, using spherical globe models for star wayfinding (like the movie Moana.) A lot of indigenous cultures have advanced geospatial mathematical models they use to find locations, and they still hire GIS technicians now! Nothing you said is wrong, I just think it’s fascinating it is to imply a flat earth is a normal assumption. I wonder if that’s our Eurocentric way of thinking influencing our mathematics because I used to feel the same way. Rant over, sorry, haha. Neat video!

These video essays continue to break new ground into being both informative and entertaining. The replay value is incredible - and your delivery in these videos never fail to keep me engaged. You'll definitely break into that 100k subs before 2025. Please keep the content coming my dude.

I will never forget a convo I once had at work.

For one reason or another, I think someone had watched a movie or something, we were talking about the holocaust, as you do 5AM in the morning.

Someone is like, "how crazy is it that there are people who say it never happened?" And then goes on to explain how there's irrefutable proof it happened etc. But yet it's so crazy that people out there are SO convinced of the lies.

The same guy, right after this speech, goes "now flat earth, there's definitely something to that"

Needless to say what followed were debates about gravity, the moon landings etc. which we would return to every now and then.

I only have two questions for flat earthers. If its flat and north is in the middle and south is... Everything else. How do compasses work? And where are east and west?

Deflating , disproving Flat Earth should be easy.
Even people supporting  that theory have the same information as everyone else.

However,
Finding out the complexities of why that theory prevails, how it function as a "believable" theory and then truly disproving it through quality education, now that would be the charm so to speak.

British hbomber and im here for it

I started my tech career in 1979, and in the summer of 1980, I was bumming around silicon valley.  While at SRI, I was introduced to the ArpaNet.  The spiritual and technical predecessor to the Internet we know today.  That couple-of-weeks experience changed my vision of what we were going to do with computers and networks.  The following fall, on a grade 13 history exam, I answered an essay question not with the expected treatise on some obscure aspect of 16th-century western European history, but instead on why computer-networking was going to be so incredibly, outrageously important over the next 20 years.  I eventually went on a couple of decades later to be heavily involved in Internet technical standards, and spent 13 years doing that!  But something that NONE of us early Internet people really realized, was that this amazing, world-changing, thing we were creating, had an unstoppable "dark side".  Oh, we knew there'd be crime, and pornography.  We expected that.  What we DIDN'T expect, was that the greatest library and knowledge dissemination mechanism that humans had ever known, would be responsible for the fact that ignorance and lies travel faster than truth, knowledge, and wisdom.  None of us early idealists had ever considered it.  But, here we are...

The exploding Tardis painting at 4:19 is so cool, I need that

Flat Earthers constantly proving the Earth is round and continuing to believe it's flat, is like me being convinced it's sunny outside; getting rained on everytime I go outside and still try to tell people it's nice and sunny.

‘We’ve been so space! We’ve been to the moon!’ Don’t want to make it worse but many, most, probably all of them don’t believe in space and/or deny the moon landing
