To even mention "Taste of Cherry" (#88) means this list-maker has superior taste.

Love your videos so much thanks for your efforts

With All Do Respect, I Know This is Your Greatest List, Not Your Favorites List but This List Seems To Be Playing it Safe. This is The Entire Criterion & Janus Films Collection.

Excellent list and terrific editing to create the list. The scenes you show makes me want to see them all. Sadly, I've probably only seen about 15 to 20% of them. I knew it would be a long-shot but was hoping that 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' would have made it, even if only for the way it looks throughout the film.

Overall, a solid list, although methinks someone is way too in love with Nastassja Kinski, lol. Interesting no Jean Dielman anywhere, given that it topped BFI. Also Lawrence of Arabia should be like, 3, minimum.

I'm the sole person always hoping "The Manchurian Candidate" is No. 1 or, at least, in Top 10. 15? Frankenheimer's original, of course. Also, his other mind screw, 1966's "Seconds."

Gotta catch up on these

Great list! And you included my favourite piece of music at the end. Mahler 2 coupled with such beautiful films is incredible. I would’ve put Kobayashi’s Human Condition trilogy in top 10, but we have different opinions.

Sansho the Bailiff is my fav maybe of all time + the Man Who Shoot Liberty Wallance! I’m grateful you mentioned that, because it’s rarely brought up! But I would also add The Cow(1969) from Iran, Elevator to the Gallows, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, 12 Angry Men, Satantango, Raise the Red Lantern or To Live from China

HUGE RESPECT FOR BG MUSIC !❤

A great list with many great omissions and a very conventional selection. Did you have a criterion to make those picks? Like limiting a director's number of films or anything like that. Would love to know your process :)

Always enjoy your videos & wish I had the know-how myself. Love me a good montage.

Seen all of these but Exorcist & Tess - I know you know your stuff. So many great films here & probably another 100 or so that could almost be interchangeable. Can always count on Paris Texas to show up high on your lists too - im a staunch defender of a few select films as well.

I've seen so few of these, a lot of classic movies are hard to come by. They've just released a new streaming service here (Sweden) that offers a lot of genre films and classics, I've heard it contains a lot of the all-time greats, so I'm giving it a go this fall!

Love this list. Fanny and Alexander is to me the most mesmerizing movie I've ever watched.

Films in my Top 9 not on your list:

The General (Keaton)
The Wizard of Oz (Fleming)
Touch of Evil (Welles)
Rosemary's Baby (Polanski)
The Conversation (Coppola)
Alien (Scott)

The ones we have in common are Sunrise, The Rules of the Game, and Psycho.

The most impressive thing about the list was no Spielberg! (unless I tuned him out) Though no Bela Tarr or Chantal Akerman was a mistake. And would like to have seen The Young Girls of Rochefort, Underground, Killer of Sheep, Last Chants for a Slow Dance and Deadman

Love the Barry Lyndon placement. I would add somewhere A Place in the Sun and A River Runs Through It. But great list.

fantastic list. bravo. no Pasolini anywhere to be seen?

Great list. I would like to see "Jules and Jim" there and "Rosemary's Baby" there before "Exorcist".
