After weeks of searching, travelling across the UK, viewing different layouts, comparing prices, and dealing with unexpected setbacks, we’ve finally narrowed down our favourite motorhome options… but now we need YOUR help choosing the right one!

We visit more motorhome dealerships, explore several different motorhomes and campervans, compare layouts, discuss the pros and cons of each van, and reveal our top motorhome picks for our road trips, weekends away, and future adventures.
From end lounges and fixed beds to storage space, comfortable living areas, practical kitchens, bathrooms, heating systems, mileage concerns, and overall value for money, we’re trying to find the perfect motorhome for our lifestyle.
We also face another frustrating setback when one motorhome we travelled over 2 hours to view had already sold before we arrived! 😩 But despite the disappointment, this trip helped us finally figure out what we really want from our future motorhome.

In this vlog we:
✅ Visit Don Amott Leisure Kingdom
✅ View several used motorhomes
✅ Discuss our motorhome buying strategy
✅ Learn how long sold motorhomes take to return
✅ Visit Derby Motorhomes
✅ Head back to Spinney in Crewe for another viewing
✅ Reveal our final shortlist over a beer at The Ugly Duckling in Telford
✅ Ask YOU to help us decide which motorhome is right for us

OMG, this was me and partner for almost all of last year. We sold our old 8.3m A Class (just too big what we wanted to do). Started off with a budget of £30k but upped that amount. Looked at every make available in the UK - from 6m campers to coachbuilts and even small A Class. We wanted around 6.5m max, fixed bed (but not transverse), reasonable lounge, didn’t feel cramped, had space to work if needed, some garage space for folding bikes and be under 3500kg.
Camper vans were ruled out either because they had too little storage with the big lounge and the pain of making the bed up, or they had a transverse bed and a small living space. Or the larger 6.4m campers needed up-plating to get a decent payload. 6m coachbuilts with a dropdown bed were lovely inside but had similar problems to campers in terms of storage space for our bikes inside the van. Took a year to find the right van, which ended up being a Rapido 650FF. Nice build quality, double bed that’s easy to get out of, garage for bikes, basically everything we needed. Payload is just about enough at 500kg.

Great video guys. I’d agree with some of the other comments about the Wildax. If you love it then go for it as it sounds and looks perfect for what you want out of a camper/motorhome. Yes it is a bigger outlay than the others but with some on your list you may spend that extra 10k fixing problems (yes we’ve had a damp Elddis that’s cost us thousands!!). I’m not saying all Elddis have these problems, in fact the new models seemed to have fixed the problem, and you are always going to have some issue with a vehicle that you drive and habitat in but if the build quality is solid it can end up saving you thousands. Also someone mentioned storage of bedding. We use vacuum bags for our bedding which keeps the storage down but also retains condition of your bedding. Good luck with whatever you choose x

Fixed bed is a must! Drop down beds limit your ability to use your motorhome while travelling ! Imagine a rainy day and your basically trapped in your motor home and one wants to lay in bed read or rest while the other wants to edit videos or whatever

We have a chausson 640 with a drop down bed but the bed can go down to the seats so not clostrophobic and plenty of room to sit in and cook.

Food for thought, we have a campervan with a seperate shower, very seldom used as a shower however used constantly as a drying room for wet clothes and coats particually if your planning to use it all year round, would be lost without it, good luck

Motorhomer with 20 years experience. You say you want a van to use throughout the year and in Europe. Therefore you need a winterised van. This would direct you to German van such as a Carthago, Dethleffs or Burstner. These are higher quality shells with better insulation and in the case of Carthago a faraday cage for lightning protection. Carthago have underfloor heating and a very solid sandwich floor construction. The internal veneers of pre covid vans ate definitely superior. You both look tall. A fixed separate peninsular bed in a Carthago C tourer would suit you. Also , this gives massive garage space, and the ability to close off the bedroom for those afternoon siestas. These are 7.45m long. Very easy to drive, stable and secure. Personally, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy a preowned Carthago against other newer vans. The quality is tangible. Best of luck.

Don’t worry about the bathroom get the single beds because that will give you good length. Fix your budget. Good luck we loved it.

I prefer campervan over motorhome simply because I like to explore those narrow lanes and find the hidden gems.
Having said that I think they try to cram too much into campervans and you end up with no room to move.
That's why we made our own (with skilled help) to suit how we intended to use it. Never intended to do much off-grid stuff, so no solar, shower or water systems. Cook under a pop up gazebo, so no kitchen required either.
Basic electrics, 12V fridge, nice comfy bed, plenty of storage & a private area to use the PortaPotty in the night. Saved an absolute fortune & don't have to worry about habitation services, leaks, or things suddenly not working. Probably not for everyone, but we've loved it for 15 years and still going.

Love that little Elddis, 115 is nice too

I loved this video even though I have no interest in camper vans or motorhomes, it was just seeing you both looking around and trying to find the perfect one for you both. I have now subscribed.

Congratulations now plan some great times away making memories...Great mh

I think you're missing a trick with drop down beds , most go much further down and lower to just above the seat cushions. And when the bed is fully up you free up a great space to lounge around... did you see what I did there 😂

@steveclifford5328 4 months ago

Wow, we are in the same situation as yourselves. We would like slightly bigger but it s a minefield. One day it’s this one next day another. And now you’ve put another one in the mix. Good luck with your search

I feel your pain deciding - it’s fun but also quite stressful! Easy for me to say as it’s not my money 😅 but I’d go for the Wildax. Reasons being you both really liked it and spoke about maybe trading up to something like that in future. The only problem with that as I’ve found out having gone from microcamper, to Transporter to a 6 metre van is when you come to trade up you’ll lose money, and in future your trade up will likely be even more expensive! I regret not going for the larger van sooner. I really like what Wildax do, their vans are very off grid ready from what I’ve seen although I’ve not seen a layout that suits my preferences or I’d have gone for one - but you really like the layout of the one you’ve seen. I know you commented on the “van” style (sliding door) which could be a deal breaker for you - for us that wouldn’t be an issue. I don’t think the perfect van exists, there’s always a compromise somewhere. Our latest van is a Ducato 2.2 auto, so far so good but at some point we know there will probably be problems with the adblue / emissions (EGR) side of things which is a risk with every diesel van newer than about 2015/16, it’s a matter of factoring it in to your budget! Good luck, you seem to be getting closer to deciding so looking forward to the van tour!

We have an Elddis Evolution and we love it. We haven't had any problems with damp it's like everything if you keep it aired properly over winter and look after it, it's as good as new. Never had any problems with it at all.

You don’t want a drop down bed, you can’t use the lounge area while it’s down so you need to go to bed & get up together, it will soon become a faff! Also as Linda found it will get flippin hot especially on a hot summer day, then the hassles of climbing up & getting down in the night to use the loo, usually using a step ladder when you’re half asleep. You want an end lounge layout, but make sure you can lay down front to back rather than transverse across, that way you have the option of using as 2x singles or pulling the sofas together to make up a double. One of you can relax & chill or even sleep while the other can be up doing stuff. You can’t beat the lounging & relaxation experience an end lounge offers. We bought our previous camper from Steve at Don Amott, they tucked us up a bit by agreeing a price then on trade in day gave us 3k less than what we had agreed, saying ‘we were always going to find something to bring the price down’ we’ve had a number of motorhomes all bought through dealers & never experienced anything like that with any other dealer, so just be careful, we also found their prices were top money.
