I’m a huge fan of both these films. Recently I re-watched Angel Heart and it blew me away again. I’d say that another film which fits into this “genre” is Jacob’s Ladder, except that’s he not a murderer, but trying to overcome the grief of his actions in Vietnam, and also losing his son.

I think the nose guard acts as a kind of mask. In the novel, I believe Harry had major facial reconstruction due to the injury that left him with amnesia. Parts of his face, like his nose needed to be protected from the heat of the sun due to wax in the reconstruction. However, visually, in the movie, he still looks too close to Favourite, so the nose guard becomes a mask.

Two of my favorite movies and directors in one essay. Now as I’m watching it the parallels are so obvious yet I never made that connection. Brilliant. New sub.

Actually the concept of people not knowing the murderer is a murderer was something in a Charles Bronson movie Telefon something of the post RFK murder that the assassin was a programmed killer also the Manchurian candidate covered the idea, and it's interesting as Psycho never clearly stated was Norman in control when his mother was killing or did he Only realise after the fact.

David Lynch's preoccupation with Los Angeles. Mulholland drive that is definitely reference to Chinatown and movie Rango, water brings life, Los Angles is not desert as L{o}s Vegas but water brought 20 million people in very drought place. People thinks gadgets (cars, phones, railway, etc) highest technological achievement but sewage system and fresh water supply system is biggest technical achievement.

Los Angles  is Spanish name means "Angels" many references to English interpretation are  Lost Angels "Lost Highway" or Fallen Angel which in biblical sense means Devil one of God's Archangel that lost wings and fall to 3D Earthly realm. In Bible this person is external force, that is that about movie - Angel Heart (1987) is,  here devil is external force in biblical sense.  In psychology it is internal "demons" and that is  Lost Highway (1997) is about.
