Were the final days of Arsene Wenger really that bad?

If you were knocking about during the late 2010s – and you should have been – watching Arsenal as a neutral football fan was akin to rubbernecking a car crash on a motorway. The morbid curiosity demanded you couldn’t look away. You knew you shouldn’t look but you couldn’t help it. It was a time when the whole world relished the Fan TV uploads after an Arsenal defeat. Never before was a football club being so shook by the sentiment of lunatics screaming into a microphone outside a football stadium. It was obvious that Arsenal weren’t the team that they were at the turn of the millennium. But: were the final days of Arsene Wenger at Arsenal really THAT bad?

They were paying off the new stadium so had to cut back on signings.

That's why Wenger was annoyed about Man City and West Ham getting free stadiums and he was kicking off about owners sponsoring their own clubs.

Wenger did a good job keeping them in the Champions League and therefore paying off the stadium quicker; which has put them in the position they are in now.

To be honest as an Arsenal fan after arsenal won the 2005 FA cup the struggle and pains of the Final years were worth it especially considering that Wenger won 3 FA cups before leaving at least it was worth it because after the pain and suffering the joy finally came back

Top two arsenal managers of all time ❤

Definately should have won the league in 2008, that was a fine side. Got slowly but surely worse every season after that

Between 1996 and 2005 the balance between attacking minded and defensive minded talent, youth promoting and recruitment was really good. 2006 until 2018 it completely shifted so heavily towards the forward line and attacking midfield, that the back line and defensive midfield was so compromised and neglected by adding mid table level of talent, not bringing through top academy players in those positions, and keeping players that weren't good enough for too long

My first fitba top was the '89 Arsenal away yellow. I got pelters at school because the philistines thought it was an Aberdeen top. Growing up in Glasgow was ... interesting.

Wouldn’t have seemed so bad if Man City hadn’t been cheating since 2009 and we weren’t paying off a stadium. Just remember though that 90% of the rival fans mocking Wenger for only winning 3 FA cups, in these later years, have never seen their club win a single trophy.

Gods work mate.... wasnt the premier league so damn exciting and full of random results compared to todays more rigid football!

Been watching your stuff for a while now... particularly love these longer vids 😊

Yes it was.

Yes Arsenal were deep in their banter era and the standards dropped due to paying off the debt of the Emirates and yes Wenger should have stepped aside in 2014 but give Wenger credit for keeping Arsenal in Champions League football on a consistent basis until his final 2 years. Had Arsenal struggled to get Champions League football during that time, Arsenal would have been far worse off both on and off the field. Not many managers would get Andre Santos, Gervinho, Arteta, Mustafi, Sanogo, Coquelin, and many bang average players to finish top 4 on a regular basis than Wenger himself.
