Was Lee Teng-hui's contribution to Taiwan's democratization a practical application of his ideals or a political tool? Was Chiang Ching-kuo's selection of Lee Teng-hui an act of trust or a pragmatic move? Was Lee Teng-hui a successor or a transitional figure? How did Lee Teng-hui reform the Kuomintang? A special discussion of Lee's relationship with Hau Pei-tsun is also included. Was Lee Teng-hui the "godfather of Taiwan independence"? Or a promoter of the "Taiwanization of the Republic of China" and the localization of the Kuomintang? From the "National Unification Guidelines" to "One China, Different Interpretations" to the "Two-State Theory," was Lee Teng-hui's cross-strait policy a strategic choice or a response to external pressure? Was Lee Teng-hui's 1995 visit to the United States a diplomatic breakthrough or a high-risk decision? Should Lee Teng-hui be held responsible for the Kuomintang's loss of power?
Did he accelerate the 2000 change of ruling party? How did Lee Teng-hui view the relationship between the "Republic of China" and Taiwan? How did Taiwan become the Taiwan we know today? For a fascinating interview, stay tuned to @CTS (China Television System) for the full story!
