It’s poetic that Gilles’ son, Jacques, won the title in ‘97. In my eyes, Jacques’ title is Gilles’ aswell

Hands down the best F1 documentary channel on YouTube, I ADORE your work.

Gilles Villeneuve man... I like F1 drivers that drove with their heart instead of using precise calculations.

My childhood hero. I’ve seen him drive at Zolder and Zandvoort several times, including his three-wheel drive at Zandvoort and, unfortunately, also his last outing at Zolder. I had a paddock ticket and was standing on top of the Ferrari pit when the accident happened. I witnessed the shock and the grief from closeby. A day forever engraved in my memory. Salut Gilles.

The patron saint of all Canadian racing drivers. Salut Gilles. Wonderful documentary btw. I appreciate how you highlighted how honourable he was to stay behind Jody at Monza. He wouldn't have passed Jody unless Jody's car died. Gilles lost the championship but gained a lot of respect for doing that. Ironically he was burned by Pironi who showed the opposite of loyalty and teamwork.

GP Watknis Glen 1979: Friday's practice and qualifying sessions were heavily affected by torrential rain, during which Villeneuve put on a legendary wet-weather display, lapping over 9 to 11 seconds faster than anyone else. That's all you need to know to understand how incredibly talented he was

There's a Gilles bio-pic being introduced at TIFF this year. It's going to finish the festival and be released in Quebec in November and world wide in 2027. It's produced by his daughter Melanie and will focus on Gilles life before F1 and up to his death.

So many "what ifs" in that story. The silver lining is that Jacques fulfilled his father's legacy by winning the '97 championship.

I understand its hard to learn and add all context but the creator forgot to include the fact that at the time Ferrari had horrible aero compared to the field and the engine layout the used was outdated and very heavy in that period of time but Ferrari were stubborn to change which is why his results were praised and so amazing

Gilles, Ronnie and Mansell were no doubt the most exciting of their eras and Gilles and Nigel got actually quite together in many aspects

@neildee9834 2 days ago

I am lucky to have witnessed this era, watched the rise of Prost and Senna from junior levels, enjoyed the calculated mastery of Schumacher, and the brilliance of Hamilton since Rye House and Verstappen since Ghent; but Giles always has my heart.
Sheer talent

A hero, a warrior, an example of integrity. Represented everything a sportsman should aspire to. The day he left us will haunt me forever. Adieu Gilles.

I would have loved to hear Jody Scheckter in full at the end. He's the one person who could have calmed Gilles down that fateful day in Spa.

As a young Canadian motorsports fan he was my childhood hero. A national treasure.

1981 I was 9 years of age I had started following Formula 1.
I was a dedicated fan of Ferrari and have remained up to this day.

I was fortunate to witness the victory at Monaco and Spain. I knew he was a top driver but I was too young and lacked knowledge of the sport to fully appreciate how great these victories were and subsequently how great Gilles was and how much more of a legend he became post his sad passing in 1982.
