I love how accesible everything is with a Spitfire. So easy to see what you are doing and not feel like a vet and a cow.

This video has reminded me of an old work mate named Malcolm who completely stripped and rebuilt a Spitfire Mk3 back in the late '80s. He resprayed it a brighter red than this one if memory serves. It was beautiful and a real eye-catcher at the time. Happy memories. 😃

My Mum had a white Triumph Spitfire and I remember her looking so beautiful and elegant driving it.
Before that she had a Mini estate that she drove for a company called Blundell's. I used to sit with her while she delivered packages around Nottingham. There was always a detour through Nottingham Trent University grounds so she could amuse me by ragging it over the speed bumps.
When she got the Spitfire she was more careful but allowed me to change gears for her.
RIP Mum I miss you.

I had one as my second ever car. Did my own revival collection caper when I bought it as a non runner.
Towards the end of my ownership I was able to change the clutch in less than two hours towards the end. It turned out to be a “frankenspitfire” and had the wrong clutch in from a herald we think.
It was an old fashioned non diaphragm spring unit and it used to fail frequently. Such an easy car to work on with the lifting bonnet and removable centre tunnel. You could sit on a front wheel and work on the engine in comfort.
I also had a single Stromberg that was much easier to set up than the twins SUs.
That example is much more beautiful than mine ever was but I still loved my car.

When I was a Sergeant in the US Army back in the early 70's one of my troopers re-enlisted, he got a substantial bonus and spent it on a new Triumph, it was a wonderful little car and I talked him into letting me drive it around the block, what a neat little car, it drove like a smooooooth jeep sort of, a soldiers ideal of nice.  He was a great guy but loved his booze and chicks, he went AWOL one to many times and our Signal Officer put him up for Court Marshall. I ended up testifying for him at his trial, had to say he was a great worker when he showed up.  He did a month in the Stockade and lost half a months pay for 3 months over the deal.  Ah well; life in the fast lane at Fort Bliss (El Paso) Texas. I aways thought I should buy one of those cars but my wife kept asking where the kids would ride....
