Remember about the rule that you MUST thank driver/rider after they let you pass at a meeting situation. Same applies to pedestrians, when being let across the road, even on zebra crossing. Consequences can be severe, such as getting a dirty look or a disapproving head shake.

I'm a HK full driving licence holder. This is the video that what I need if I visit the UK in the future! Thank you so much, Richard! 🇭🇰❤🇬🇧

US driver here. The biggest thing that shocked me about UK driving is just how polite everybody is. Driving in major US cities like New York, Chicago Miami, etc can be so aggressive and chaotic. I was pleasantly surprised at how many people obey the laws and don't speed. Everything feels well organized and it doesn't feel like a fight for every inch of progress like Midtown NY does. The biggest difference for me was the "keep left at all times unless passing" rule. In the US I almost always just cruise in the middle lane of a highway, whereas that doesn't seem to be the case in the UK.

“I’ve been driving in the UK for almost two and a half years, yet I still find your videos incredibly helpful. They continue to boost my confidence and refresh my knowledge. Thank you for taking the time to create and share such valuable content.”

Inpecible timing, I've been planning to drive to and in the UK form the Czech Republic somewhat soon and just started looking at how it's different there, great timing Richard

Some other things I've found useful:
1) Tape a piece of paper on the dash with "DRIVE LEFT  ....  LOOK RIGHT" on it.  The "look right" bit is to remind you to look right first when approaching junctions; traffic approaching from the right will be closer to you than traffic approaching from the left.  (If you don't find left/right intuitive, you can add big arrows under the left/right wording.)
2) Be careful about complacency on days 3 - 4.   The first 2 days are weird enough that you'll probably not forget to drive on the left, but by day 3 you're more comfortable, and more likely to accidentally revert to driving on the right.
3) After reversing, take the time to stop and think carefully about which side of the road to drive on when you go forward.  (This is the one which catches me out the most.)
4) If you normally wear a wristwatch, try putting it on the other wrist while you're in Great Britain.  Some people say it causes just enough left/right unfamiliarity to prompt you to think about it when driving.
Hope you enjoy your stay!

This video has helped me a lot. I'm returning home to the UK for the first time in nearly 30 years. I've hired a car but I've spent the past 3 decades driving on the left. This has helped calm the nerves a little. Thank you.

Not from abroad but this is a nice overview of the road rules

I passed my driving test three days ago with just one minor! 🎉 Your videos really helped me refine my driving and get ready for the test — thank you so much for making them! I still enjoy watching your videos even after passing! You are so clear, detailed and calm 🙌🏼

Great video. I am thinking of renting a car the next time I am in the UK. Still hesitating, but this video motivates me to do it.

On the topic of using the horn to make yourself known to other drivers: in rural England I've driven across a very small but tall humped bridge. It was one car wide and taller than the average SUV from the ground, meaning that I could not for the life of me see any cars that may be crossing on the other side until it would have been too late. Situations like this is when I use the horn as intended to make myself known to drivers across the other side of the bridge. Country lanes in the UK have some surprising challenges for drivers.

Chinese here. I got Chinese license in 2018 and UK full license in 2023 (and I'm grateful to your videos). I think attitude is one of the most important things when driving in another country. If you're willing to adapt, you learn the local rules more quickly. While if you refuse to learn or have some situation awareness, you'll definitely drive like a spanner.

Very clear video.
Thank you

You deserve to have 1M subscribers, thanks for your videos 👍👍👍

Even as a native UK driver with almost 30 years experience I found your video useful. The red lines restrictions are new to me.  I can't think of anywhere round here that has them so not something I was aware of 👍. The video missed a couple of important points drivers should be aware of. Contrary to the highway code when a car passing the opposite direction flashes you, it normally means Police/speed camera/Hazard ahead. I know that in other countries that this can mean that other driver is telling you off. Also a wave or thumbs up to the driver that has given way to you is customary. In low light or where a driver has given way to let you merge it is also polite to flash or put your hazard lights on for a second. Of course this is all unofficial but important to be familair with the cultural norms.

And congrats for 1M 🎉❤

Great video, Richard! Come visit Czechia some time, love your series on driving in Europe. And congratz on 1 million!

I always check out a variety of these Conquer Driving videos before heading to the UK on a driving trip.  Rules of the road, roundabouts and traffic signs are very helpful! I find driving in the UK less stressful than driving in Toronto any day of the week!

Passed first time last week and your videos were a huge help in that, thanks for the excellent explanations!

"You dont want to be cutting across 3 lanes" you should use the NDR broadland northway. Nobldy trusts anyone and half of the drivers use whatever lane they deem safe. I'd love to see a video from you in them. ❤❤❤❤❤ Thank you for all of the effort you put in your videos. You can tell its a real passion. 🎉😊
