If I remember right one of the reasons the reasons he did not get caught was that he kept playing the game.

D-day was June 6, on June 29 the forced that had landed in normandy captured the city of Cherbourg ( the other port city besides caley they mentioned)
After  Cherbourg  was captured Garbo wrote a furios letter about how the hell can you guys have fucked up so badly against a diversion that you lost  Cherbourg .
Followed later with "intel" he gathered that because the germans fucked up so badly Patten was now going to land in Cherbourg, and would most probably head to Calais over land depending on the situation on the ground in france.
On the 25th of august Patten did lead operation Cobra from Cherbourg  but did not head in the direction of Calais ( to the north) but to the south instead.

When they asked Garbo why he did not have any intel on the direction of the attack of that advance by patten garbo berated them saying he had told them it would depend on the situation on the ground in France. and if te spies in france failed to gather this info it was not his fault, he could not be expected to gather information in France from london could he.

Yeah fun fact but bro had the Germans so convincing he was on their side that after they lost a high ranking member of the party I forget who it was if it’s even mentioned actually apologized to him crying for “wasting all his hard work for them by losing”

Part of the reason Garbo was so successful is that MI6 counterintelligence was on point, I think even before Garbo every spy the Germans sent to England, they'd get off the U-boat and swim to shore expecting a friendly German spy to meet up with them and instead it was MI6.  Allegedly by the time the war ended, every single German spy sent to England had been turned, except for one who took his cyanide pill.

Yeah, the USA built TWO portable harbors. One of them was destroyed in a storm shortly after D Day. The other operated for months until they were able to take proper ports.

I think my favorite propaganda from the Russia-Ukraine war is where the Ukraine tax office posted on Twitter that any abandoned Russian materiel you may happen to claim is considered spoils of war and thus not taxable income.

Because it implies that they were getting this question a lot.  and maybe they were, but it's great propaganda whether it's true or not
