Vietnam’s climate is hot and humid, and the environment is dusty and noisy; traffic is chaotic and disorderly, with virtually no clear rules being followed. Street food often lacks hygiene and safety standards, making one highly susceptible to stomach upsets or diarrhea. As for merchandise, genuine goods are mixed with fakes and knockoffs, making it impossible to tell the difference; meanwhile, price gouging—or "fleecing" customers—is rampant and arbitrary, often based simply on the customer's appearance—with foreigners being prime targets.
Frankly , the safest and most definitive way to avoid going to Vietnam , visiting Japan, South Korea, or Singapore would be a thousand—even a million—times better and safer !
This is the genuine, personal experience of myself and my family—entirely free from any political bias—as well as the shared conclusion reached by many close friends and acquaintances regarding the place once known as the "Pearl of the Far East" .
Thank you!!! I’m in Rach Gia…the heat is humbling…I lived I. The desert, dry heat…but the humidity??? I just want to take a morning stroll, but it is almost hard to breathe lol
Tell it like it is ! most westerners have no concept of what its like to live in a developing nation. All they see is yt and tiktok influencer nonsense.
My sister moved to VN HCM city with her husband and 2 kids a year ago. They signed 1 year lease at Vinhome district 9. She couldn’t make it a full year cause she misses America too much. She said there are too many things that make her unhappy living in VN. A lot of the things she said are exactly what you have mentioned. Thank you for being honest and observant when you compare life living in VN. It is so expensive living in America but we do have many good things. So, I guess it is best to live way below our means so we can continue living here in America.
Thanks for sharing your honest experience there. A lot of the things you mentioned would have never crossed my mind. I guess it comes with actually living there and experiencing day to day life. I still hope to visit one day but will keep everything in mind. Looking forward to the next trip!
You should consider Da lat, it’s a lot cooler and quieter. I’ll be arriving there by the end of this month, I decided not to go to Da Lat because of the heat, it’s way too much. You sound like a very nice person, thanks for sharing your thoughts, I’m subscribing 😊
You’re not alone because many cite the heat as a reason for leaving SEA. Nevertheless, it is possible to acclimate the body to a higher baseline temperature set point. It has happened to me. Good luck,
