Why Does The Roaring Knight Flicker?

Something seemed obvious to me on my first playthrough of Chapter 3. I kept waiting for a theory video to pop up talking about the Roaring Knight that touched on what, to me, seemed like an obvious clue. But as time went on, I came to realize that maybe this wasn't obvious to everyone else. Or, just maybe, anyone else. If I wanted that video to exist, I would have to make it - and so I did.

I dedicated myself to putting this together after the chapter 5 trailer was unveiled during the Nintendo Direct recently, which should tell you just how many hours I put into this, and yet I still feel like I could have done so much more. If you have enjoyed the theory - whether you agree or even just found it entertaining - let me know what you think. I'm burning with excitement for the new chapter's release and just had to get this out there before it comes out! (And proves me completely wrong, of course.)

I try to give credit to all art used throughout the video - if I've missed one (or worse, given an incorrect attribution somewhere) please let me know!

Water Theory video I mentioned:
The Deltarune Water Theory

Spamingo's Rudy Knight video I half-mention in the intro:

If the Knight is disc-shaped, will Rouxls Kaard be able to control it with his control crowne?

Bro finished his homework 15 minutes before class

The roaring knight is Dess’s unopened ska CD confirmed

@DeltaBlazin 1 month ago

The Knight being the manifestation of Dess' unfulfilled desires, her broken dreams, if you will, that COMPLETELY explains why The Knight has a Shadow Crystal.

“There’s very clearly a b plot happening in the background”

Like uhh hey some type of side B of the chapter?

YOU WERE ONTO SOMETHING? Seam refers to the shadow crystals as containing “the power of lost dreams”

The Knight is the original Petscop disc that got thrown out

8:03 Crucial detail: before turning into their bird shape, The Knight turns BACK into the ball, and THEN transforms into the bird, supporting the idea that the ball is the true form from which the other images are projected from.

another supporting argument for the Roaring Knight being darkness is that they can affect the light world, just like the Titan can

27:00 considering how the knight could be the song, it's possible undyne ran straight to the shelter because she heard it, somehow recognized dess's voice and followed it to the shelter since she has apparently been missing, and it's her job as police chief to know and progress those cases

the concept of something "incorporeal" being a Darkner is the type of insanity I see Toby pulling off out of nowhere.
This just became one of my favorite theories

14:17 a lot of people miss this but one of the random lines that the river person says is "Tra la la. Did you ever hear the old song coming from the sea?"
