One tiny correction, Mkoll wasn't the third person that was sent to talk to Gaunt, it was Milo. He was specifically sent with the hope that Gaunt would be less likely to just execute them if the kid that saved him was there.

One of the things I like about the ghost stories is that it shows the derp nature of buerocracy.
Here we have light infantry, recon specialists and what does command do with them? 9/10 times they're deployed to hold trenches.

I figure I should say this: This was my first taste of 40k, my school's library having the Gaunt's ghost books on a rack to be checked out. I picked it out because I was into sci-fi and from then on, 40k was an addiction.

You know that video of the bagpipe initiated ambush in a training exercise? That’s Tanith.

They also have a knife wielding sociopath (multiple), a schizophrenic able to take your head off over a kilometre away, and a Scottish shaolin monk, and that’s only the ones off the top of my head.

Gaunt righteously smokes some prissy patrician elite murderer with a chain sword.

Gaunt gets command of three regiments gathered from some backwater forest planet populated by the descendents of unruly Picts.

The planet of Gaunt's regiments is attacked by "chaos" forces midpoint during embarking and the "chaos" forces are supplied with exactly what is needed to burn down a forest planet.....

I discovered Gaunt and the Ghosts in 2007, almost 20 years ago. It became one of the most important series of books I ever read during my teenage years. Nowadays, I am still reading them, although I think Abnett is loosing the edge since the Lost ark. But I Will continue to read the new books as they come.
