Do you think this movie deserves the hype or is it overrated??

Mima loses track of time and experiences blackouts because her manager, Rumi, is drugging her, abducting her, and keeping her in a replica room to feed a psychotic delusion. This physical relocation causes Mima's confusion over small details, like a changing fish tank or misaligned calendar days, making her believe she is losing her mind.

Something I think you guys might relate to is how Mima isn't just losing her sense of self. She is having the image of how people see her forced back on her as more real than the real her.

Perfect Blue is one of those films that requires at least one rewatch. Come to think of it, besides Tokyo Godfathers, all of Satoshi Kon's work requires at least one rewatch.

It still hurts that we lost Satoshi Kon when we did.

36:40 Props to Spidey nailing it

Japanese Truck Drivers be like "I am paid per hit and run"

43:04 I think the others corrected you a minute or two later but just to be clear, Me-Mania wasnt running the chat room. Rumi was. It's why Mimi's Room was able to know so much about Mimi. Rumi, as Mimi's mananger, was able to be with her all the time to observer her quirks. He was just someone who was reading them and believed Rumi was Mimi, so he was following Rumi's orders believing it to be from the real Mimi. Because Mimi was doing those raunchy scenes and was no longer an idol, he considered her to be fake and the Mimi from Mimi's Room, aka Rumi, to be the real one.

36:41 And Spidey with the perfect read for Perfect Blue lol.

You guys should watch Millennium Actress. As trippy as Perfect Blue in terms of reality vs fiction l, but VERY feel good

Just a reminder that the whole "Rumi's voice coming out of Mima at the end" thing is an urban myth with no official source. Don't know why people keep repeating it like it's the "Viggo broke his toe" of Perfect Blue. You can CLEARLY hear that's Mima's voice.

That said, I've seen this movie a billion times and never noticed the 404 license plate. Good catch!

By far my favorite Satoshi Kon film. The only one I've watched more than once.

That scene at 23:12 was recreated in the movie “Requiem for a Dream”. And YES, this movie’s whole concept was taken for the movie, “Black Swan”

One of the greatest psychological thrillers not only in anime but in any media. Satoshi Kon's best work IMO. This alongside Ghost In the Shell (1995), Spirited Away, and Akira are in my mount rushmore of anime films.

Perfect Blue an amazing debut for director satoshi kon. It is a masterpiece in storytelling, suspense and psychological thriller. It even went on to inspire other movies like black swan. You should check out more movies from him. You’ll definitely enjoy them like Tokyo Godfathers or Paprika.

Also, Rumi from perfect blue was hands down the greatest twist villain in a animated movie. When l saw the movie the first time, I was honestly confused at first. But after watching it again and looking at the characters behavior and actions, it all made so much sense. It’s one of those movies where you need to watch it more than once to look for clues to understand the reveal.

🔥 this is one of my favorite anime movies

they MUST watch Tokyo Godfather on Christmas

Showed this movie to some of my cousins when we were all together over the 4th at the grandparents we were all in our early 20s parents were out at the bar an came back during the club scene. We got some strange looks and I told them this was the absolute worse time to walk in on this movie without context.

Rumi set up the web page and Me-mania wrote the daily enteries based on the emails he got from "Mima" (Rumi) and his own stalking.

There's a pretty big clue that Rumi was behind the diary all along:
The first time Mima reads it, it says how she praised Erin's acting in the tv show. But Mima said that to Rumi in a low voice so only Rumi knew that.
So when Me-mania put it in the diary, he knew the fact because Rumi told him hence giving a clear indication that Rumi and Me-mania were working together.

Also, when Mima kills me-mania, when she comes back on the stage with Rumi and sees the body disapeared, notice she has completely different clothes.
During the time she changed, Rumi hid the body and murdered the manger Mr. Tadokoro.

31:19 The Murder of Gonzago

its really cool that they do the reality and actress thing because actors use technique where they use their trauma and other real experience to perform better in acting
