"Dear Muses, please let me cook with this one" is now my new creative mantra. Thanks, Red.

"Farming is a bit like comedy"
True, it can be corny sometimes

I love Urania as a muse, because muses are all about inspiration, and having a goddess of the wonder and inspiration you feel when looking out at the night sky and wondering what's out there is amazing. She's like a muse of scientific inspiration.

“Some say the Muses are nine, but how carelessly! Look at the tenth, Sappho from Lesbos.” - Plato

6:25  i think she’s a muse, because of all the constellations, she inspires people to see the starts and see patterns, and imagine. And from those images make stories.

The muses were always a symbol for art and stories. At first I didnt get Urania but then I realized that the sky and the stars could be seen as an drawing. She moves the stars around and makes constellations. We also get inspired by them. That's her way of inspiring us.

I love the way that Red gives each Muse their own color, design, and personality/pose during the numbered list part of the video. Her art is always so vibrant and cute and charming, it's easily the best parts of these videos for me!

6:35 "There's really not much else to say about them-"
Checks video length
Happily continues

in my mind, urania is the muse of wonder. she's the one that inspires questioning the distant, far-off things humanity can't quite reach. she inspires a child's mind to wander, inspires an astronomer to look just a little closer.

13:00, I do like that the muses are meant to be gods for EVERYONE, because we all know comedians experience tragedy and people are often funny in their every day lives

“Citing my sources would make me a narc!” - 10/10 I need to use to use this line somewhere

"No you guys dont understand, Thalia is so my muse!"
turns to the other farmers
"Like, whats the deal with grain prices?"
laugh track
"Right? Like, i have to pay 10 ducats for a bag and it comes with two free rats? You have to get it home fast or else you'll have half a bag of grain and 10 rats"
Laugh track

As someone who works on a farm, that quip from the farmer that Thalia is probably involved in his crops growing was not a joke I was expecting but is so accurate it's painful.

The Muses allowed Red to cook with this one. Honestly one of the most thought-provoking videos I've watched about any part of the ancient mythologies.

I smell Red's admiration for Sir Terry Pratchett in this. The whole "what makes humans human? – It is turning a world where things  just happen into one that can be understood with narratives as throughline" thing. The reason why in the science of Discworld they suggest that Pan narrans (the storytelling ape) would be a much better name for humans than Homo sapiens .

The line "Honey, you mean HUNKules" has lived rent-free in my head for nearly 20 years and I love it.

The fact that the muses are the daughers of Zeus and the goddess of memory is so good. Like lightning, inspiration strikes at random, sometimes you have entire storms going so quickly that you can't physically put all your thoughts on paper fast enough, and other times there's dry periods where nothing falls. But they're also in a symbiotic relationship with memory, where what we know feeds what we can create, and when there's lapses in our memory, our brains often will try to fill in by making up what it thinks may have happened there. You can't tame them, but you can befriend them: One of the worst things you can do when art block rolls around is to try and force yourself to produce art nonetheless. Art block is, often, a symptom of other things in your life not going well. The muses are like birds and bugs, completely free to choose which garden they land on: The healthier the garden is, the more likely they'll be to come visit. Take care of yourselves, everyone <3

As one of those multidisciplinary creative types I often feel like I'm getting passed around the Muses like a group of sisters each insisting I'm HER pair of socks and, no, she will not share....until I inevitably get shoved in a drawer somewhere just so the arguments stop and I don't have any contact with them for months.

I love them, but I'm pretty sure this is a toxic relationship.

The Muses certainly had to have had a hand in that hit single “Telemachus’s Mom”. What a banger. Also, fantastic video here, always a pleasure to learn more

My mother is a cellist and has performed in a two-person play called "An Iliad".  It's basically a Poet recounting the tale to the Iliad, and a Muse accompaning him on the cello.  When my mom played the Muse, she drew inspiration from the muse of tragedy.  Its a really good play.
