On October 31, 2018, Tom Hagen comes home from work early. When he enters his house in Lørenskog, a suburb of Oslo, he expects to find his wife in the middle of her regular mid-day chores and activities. But the house is empty. At first glance nothing seems out of the ordinary. But Tom is puzzled, his wife had not mentioned she would be leaving their home. And that’s when he sees the ransom note.
What comes next is the start of one of Norway’s most baffling criminal cases in recent times.
Today, I will be taking a closer look at the alleged kidnapping of Anne-Elisabeth Hagen.
This is an ongoing case. At the time of recording this, Anne-Elisabeth still hasn’t been found. While the authorities in Norway have made it clear in the media what their suspicions are, no one has yet to be held responsible. In an age when almost everyone leaves a digital footprint and data from our phones track our every movement, it seems almost impossible to truly disappear - yet that’s exactly what Anne-Elisabeth has done.
