Hello and welcome to the final edition of SUMO PRIME TIME in 2024. We deeply appreciate your support and for tuning in throughout the year.
This year delivered countless unforgettable moments in the sumo ring. Who could have imagined rookie Takerufuji making history as the first rookie in 110 years to claim the top division championship? Onosato also made headlines, capturing his first title in only his seventh top-division tournament—the fastest since turning professional.
In the final tournament of the year, Kotozakura rose to the occasion, securing his maiden Emperor’s Cup.
Meanwhile, Yokozuna Terunofuji did manage to make his presence felt by capturing two championships.
While many new stars emerged in 2024, one big question remains: will 2025 bring the rise of a new Yokozuna, and could it be the year Terunofuji is finally dethroned?
As fans gear up for the excitement of the 2025 season, let’s take a moment to reflect on the year’s highlights and celebrate the new stars who shone brightest.
As always, ‘arigato’ for watching, and we’ll see you again soon. Happy holidays!

It would be great if the sumo tournaments stayed uploaded. It's very sad that they are taken down two weeks after and you can't watch the old tournaments😢

I'm a new sumo fan. I'm REALLY looking forward to follow sumo year 2025 since I just got interest in sumo at the end of 2024.

Appreciate what you do Hiro❤

I started watching sumo in January while recovering from an ankle and leg injury. Definitely think I chose a good year to become a fan. So much new, exciting talent. I have a feeling 2025 will be even bigger 🎉

I absolutely love the rookie that won the championship. What a complete beast that he busted his foot and still went out there and won the championship.

Great year for Sumo. Hoshoryu still hasn't realized his full potential, but the Hoss is on his way. Looking forward to a great 2025 for Sumo! Yoi otoshi wo omukae kudasai everybody!

Thanks Hiro and SPT production team! It has been a very good year in sumo!

😢 seeing that rookie win the championship after 103 years, and then seeing all of those people that supported him behind him brought me to tears.
So much love and support, if only where I'm from it was like this.

This year was exciting! Takerufuji winning on his debut, Onosato on his second basho and even claiming a second win. Then Kotozakura winning very strongly with the aim of getting Yokozuna promotion.

Onosato is a beast. He will be the next yokozuna in the May tournament.

Great Video Hiro!! ❤️

I can't wait for the Jan 2025 tournament. Honestly, Hoshoryu deserves a title this year.

Takerufuji has put the sumo world on notice!!!!!!!!

I discovered sumo in September, and I love it since then😄

A sport steeped in so much tradition, having a 110 year old record broken!😮❤❤❤❤

It's great that we have three strong candidates for future Yokozuna, and that they're all relatively young. Since I started watching sumo, all the Yokozuna I've seen have had lots of trouble with injuries and had to sit out most of their tournaments (which is understandable! - these guys really put their bodies on the line), and I'd love to see some Yokozuna who can participate more consistently.

thanks very much Mr Morita for your passionate support of sumo and consistently producing this video series for the fans around the world.

Between yourself, the vlogger reporter Chris Sumo and others, there's never as much access to the day to day of this great tradition for us in the Western world. I've been following for 3+ decades but have never felt as close to it as the present times. Accessibility matters! 🎉

I feel much gratitude for discovering this great sport . I wish it were more accessible to Western audiences. I've learned to love the Japanese culture through sumo thanks to your show.

Amazing video brother! Keep it going! You have big fans over here in Los Angeles, CA! Thank You!!
