I see this event as Kanade relapsing in the same way mafuyu does in her own focus. She was on the right track, finally Improvement after years of stagnation, but is sent spiraling back to square one when reminded of how Herculean the task she’d assigned herself is. I don’t think the event does a good job of showing how this is a relapse, but I think the mentioning of a second confrontation triggered something within her.

I also wonder if the heart mafuyu is sitting on is Kanade’s since in the card story, she acknowledges how her struggles must be affecting Kanade, and though she resolves to be more firm, watches helplessly as Kanade descends further into depression. Kanade has been able to help her so much, but she hasn’t been able to help Kanade in the same way — at least not as much as she thinks. She’s helped Kanade more than she can imagine, but she doesn’t know that, and especially now I can understand why she’d feel like she’s the one crushing Kanades heart.

My first thought with the dna balloons was that it represented their families!

Kanade is desperately clinging onto her balloon, the one with the messed up ribbons- her family is near destroyed with her mother dead and father in the hospital, but she refuses to lose hope or let go.

Mafuyu’s surrounded by balloons, all perfect- she’s surrounded by the pressure of her family, mainly her mother, while (before running away at least) pretending to be perfect with a perfects family

Ena has only 4 balloons with dna strands in her card, and three of them are further away, but she’s at peace with it- she tends to be more distant with her family due to her anger and issues revolving her art, but is coming to accept it and move on with her family

As stated, Rin get the 3 star because she has no real family, being a vocaloid, and Mizuki gets the 2 star because her family is good

i see my girl kanade and D/N/A i click

I JUST NOTICED HOW KANA5 CARDS TIE WITH NIHIL SAN 2DMV OMG ur analysis is so good pls dont die

A small thing I noticed about Kanade is that despite having a sharp stinger on her finger, despite the stinger being so close to the fragile balloon, she doesn’t pop it!

24:46 ngl her hands looks like she WAS holding the apple but "accidentally" let it go

Ngl the cw of insects was so funny

another interpretation i had about kanade’s card, i think of it as a sort of visual representation of the song she was making during the event. like, she’s desperately trying to convey that warmth that mafuyu described, with the intense sunset behind her. she’s trying to convey a sense of childlike wonder with the theme park, like the story of when mafuyu got lost in the theme park as a child. all the themes are there, but she can’t get it right. which resulted in how intense the card comes across. it could also be why kanade is sitting down, maybe she feels tied down by the weight of not being able to make the right song.

but i loved your interpretation so much! please make more like this, this was very informative!

This was a really good video, and I pretty much agree with everything here.

One thing that I do want to note and that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere else (and maybe this is just an insane reach), but when Mafudad talks about the incident with Mafuyu's first fever, there's this description of Mafumom carrying her and shielding her from the snow, making her hair appear completely white.

I know this sounds kinda looney, but to me this feels like an intentional parallel between the two most key people in Mafuyu's life, Kanade and Mafumom. Obviously one is, uh, a bit worse at her job, don't get me wrong, but I think there is something to be said about how both women's attempts at "protecting" or "caring for" Mafuyu end up having her feel worse for it, whether it's Mafumom's pressure or Kanade's unwillingness to be kinder to herself. I think the silent kitchen card best exemplifies that too. Kanade is obviously nowhere as bad as Mafumom, but she too, inadvertently, fails to see how grieved Mafuyu is due to her actions. I think, and even if it's a bit misguided in that attempt (and even if it doesn't lead anywhere cause as you said, mafu6 kinda ignores anything between Kanade and Mafumom) that one of the event's themes here is that very parallel between those two.

This is not me condoning Mafumom btw, even with mafu6 knowledge, I just think it's interesting that such a parallel CAN be drawn.

10:27 "snaps her back to attention" BRO FAINTED 😭

I think this event tries to target an issue I’ve always had with Kanade.

Kanade has every right to be upset and distrust Mafumom. But the focus is on Kanade’s issues, not with how she sees Mafumom. A big part of Kanade’s story is probably gonna be that creating a song to “save” her is a fools errand. That it’s by being by Mafuyu’s side that helps Mafuyu, as well as the small reprieve from her troubles via music that helps. There’s no miracle cure song to do it. And it seems like that’s what the story is trying to say, that a single song cannot fix such a complex issue.

Also, the fact that there’s an emphasis on perspective. Mafumom saw Mafuyu a certain way, and is trying to change it. Kanade now has to come to terms with the fact she also only knows a part of who Mafuyu is too.

If the story does conclude with “I made the song to save you!” then it would kinda hurt the narrative a lot, but I do think this story arc is meant to show Kanade in the wrong for what her goals are.

5:58 “Her Battle Station” 😭

Nice video! You must've taken notes, were they unreliable.. by chance?

Another amazing analysis, good luck making the nihil-san and bake no hana ones

Also, I think that apart from the reversed dna lyric mafuyu is upside down is because she is mirrored from kanade just like the two chains that form the dna are the exact opposite of one another , I also read somewhere that maybe each n25 character is represented by one of the four nucleotides since there are 4, but i dont know which one would be each one, aside from the fact that kanade and mafuyu are probably a matching pair (cytosine and guanine for example) and Ena and Mizuki represnt the other pair

Unrelated but i believe"then it would be a white, sweet fleeting thing" mafuyu says is a reference to the bombyx mori and its dependence on humans

Once again sorry for the long text and please keep doing such good analysis <3

So just hear me out what if the DNA  ribbons in mafuyu's card represent mafuyu herself?

like in empurple where we have mentions of crimson and blue sky i believe the blue represents mafuyus good girl persona everything her mother wants her to be while the red is what she actually is

"If you saw it, I wonder if you would be shocked?"
The lyrics are directly asking mafumom would she be shocked to see the real mafuyu? The one she tried to hide because its not "perfect" just like they say in the lyrics of empurple
" The crimson sky is so beautiful, yet you'll never know."
Mafumom will never know the real mafuyu with all her flaws because she doesn't want to know that mafuyu

My personal interpretation of mafuyu's card is like :

Mafuyu is sitting on a "perfect" diamond she is the beautiful gem in her mother's eyes yet that diamond thats supposed to be strong is cracking, its not perfect anymore, mafuyu is beginning to disobey her mom. Red is coming out of the cracked diamond, mafuyu's real self is starting to show ( empurple lyric reference?? )  and is tainting her "perfect" image.

While mafuyu is feeling guilty for feeling that way, she is staring at her emotions with a pained expression. Maybe shes doubting her actions wondering if she should stop them or embrace her feelings.

These emotions of her are ruining the good memories she has with her mother ( the apple ) shes starting to doubt those memories.

Also her dress is completely white, pure, perfect, just like how her mother views mafuyu but that perfect dress is starting to become dark ( like the rest of N25s clothes ) in mafuyu moms eyes N25 are ruining the perfect dress they are the ones responsible for "ruining" her perfect daughter.

And thats all!! Also i just wanted to add I love videos like this they really make me realize lots of things i might have missed and this video is just so well made!!!

31:50 while they may be rabbit shaped apple slices, i think they could also be apple seeds that have just broken open, which connects with dna and the theme of biology.

Мне кажется претензия, мол: "в центрах Канаде, слишком много Мафую" - очень странной, ведь спасения Мафую - это главная мотивация Канаде и одна из причин почему она действует

20:10 Adding something I noticed as well. The artist for the cards likely used different layer settings for the lighting of each card. Kanade has Color Dodge to make the colors more saturated and intense. Ena has either Lighten Color or Overlay for a softer look. And Rin as Add (Glow).

unreliable notes just came out on the EN server, so I was finally able to bring this video out of my watch later and go through it without being spoiled! this was a great analysis, and your readings of the alternate interpretation of D/N/A (dareka no / naka no / anata wa) provided a lot of clarity for me and were super cool to see

one thing you didn't touch on that was interesting to me was the lyric at 33:27 referencing shadow tag (partially because I fixated on the Pokemon ability with the same name, and now I'm wondering why the Pokemon ability is called that LOL). My understanding of shadow tag is that it's like regular tag, where someone is "it" and has to chase down everyone else, except all the person who's "it" needs to do is to step on someone else's shadow. If the person who's "it" steps on your shadow, then you become "it" and have to chase down somebody else. My interpretation of this as it relates to Kana5 is that, similar to parents passing down their genes (and DNA), Mafuyu and Kanade's parents have passed down their roles to their kids (Mafuyu being a perfect daughter, Kanade being a composer) by "shadow tagging" them, so to speak, and now Mafuyu and Kanade are "it" and have to carry on those roles. I feel like my interpretation is missing something, though, so if anyone reading this knows more about shadow tag or has another interpretation of that line, I'd love to know more about it

I don't keep up with the JP story so I can't watch this yet but I am saving it for later because your Samsa and Heat Abnormal videos were fantastic <3
