Yeah. Red Maiden is indeed a boss theme. But you're the boss

once you notice the dies irae motif you start to hear it everywhere. death is seeped into the very bones of this game

its so incredible to hear an entire chamber orchestra / choir on this soundtrack. Christopher has reached his full power with the talent and artistry of the musicians performing his music. shout out to them, their performance made this game that much more beautiful

You can tell Larkin put years of work into this soundtrack, it sounds timeless 🥲

Can I just say how SPOT on your takes are on these songs. Saying Lace sounds like a vigilante, and Bilewater sounds like "Memories" SOOOO spot on.

When he said that the Bilewater music is full of unforgettable memories, I do feel it. I won't be able to forget that goddamn Hellwater~

Really hope yo do the other half, it gets even better if you could believe it!

Actually this song is used in a really late part of the game, but the reason it's the first one is probably because it was in the 2019 reveal trailer for Silksong.

He's so polite that instead of "Holy f*ck", he said "Holy Fork"😂

MASTERPIECE OF A GAME. EVERYTHING ABOUT IT IS SUCH ART

Bilewater is memories, memories of a past where life had not been corrupted by the citadel above. you might even hear a bit of anger from when the pizzicato starts, as the piano combines with the plucks on some notes, to create the effect that the piano hammer hitting the strings is hitting them too hard. this is showing how even though the area has been abused and deformed by the citadel the life there resists and even rebels, in hatred against the oppressors.
you can also hear the strings lag behind the piano, creating the effect of resistance. this is something that i havent seen many people pick up on so i though i would put it here

i will say widow's theme sounds odd without all the bells clanging around and her screaming

its a shame that only the first or second layer of "cut through" is in the official ost. it has multiple different layers and sounds really good when theyre all combined, especially with the drums

The official release of cut through is actually missing some parts present in the in-game version of the track. For the battles it plays during, it starts with layer 1 (the version you heard) but then adds both a percussion layer (drumset mostly) and eventually a third layer with extra choir and some horns as the battle progresses! Its a total shame the full version isnt on the official release, but several people have uploaded the full thing if you look around (usually under titles like "percussion ver" or "in-game version").
I would link a upload of it but youtube doesnt like it when people do that :/

Hope at a minium you can listen to it your own time seeing how much you liked just layer 1!

1:01:18 memories indeed… but not in the way you think ☠️

Describing Bilewater's theme as a memory is the most accurate interpretention i have ever heard.

Basicaly Bilewater is a toxic swamp that once was a bealtiful heaven, but the Citadel's fumes created by the Exaust organ poluted everything, the theme tries to represent the tragedy that place actualy is.

i LOVE how the major motif for the entirety of Pharloom is the Dies Irae, because the kingdom itself is ensnared in the webbing of an angry god
just a BEAUTIFUL move on Larkin's part, he never disappoints man

i think he did  a stellar job of demonstrating the difference between the calm sadness of Hallownest as a dead kingdom and the vibrant, active beauty of Pharloom as a LIVING one through the soundtrack

one of my favorite tracks is Fourth Chorus, because the singing we hear is ACTUALLY the boss singing, it's a massive Ant Mecha that was built in order to eternally sing the Song of Binding to keep Grandmother Silk asleep just like all the other mechs we see
and we know it was the boss itself singing because when it is defeated it releases a whole host of Silkflies from within, unlike most other mechs in game releasing just one, showing us how many souls it takes to power such a huge construct and sing so powerfully
such a cool little detail that makes the boss SO much cooler in my eyes.

Red Maiden is a very fun one too, because it's a new rendition of Hornet's theme from Hollow Knight except this time YOU are the boss, the one dropping into the room and attacking the bugs inside to get your stolen items back.

hoping the vid makes it to 500 likes! the second part is definitely worth a listen

oh you are a JOY to watch i love this
The Marrow is where I, playing on release day and trying to get into the game as quick as possible, stopped and stood there and went "w. wait. wait hold on. wait this soundtrack is next level. hold o n. hold on, have -- have other people heard this? have other people been listening to this?? this is extraordinary"

44:58 Well, what you said was surprisingly accurate haha
