The Alex was based upon the RX-78-1 Full Armor from the One Year War.  The prototype that was destroyed on Earth at the Arctic Base by the Neo-Zeons was the psychommu version meant for Amuro Ray.  The Alex on the Colony was an alternative version meant for non-psychic MS pilots like Chris.

丁寧な工作、塗装で素晴らしい出来栄えですね！モデグラの作例のようです。

めちゃめちゃカッコいい。

0080 was ahead of its time for MS designs.

The Bandai waterside decals are a huge improvement in this kit.  I gave away my first attempt at the Alex to a beginner Plamo friend, along with a Gouf B-3 years ago because I thought I was capable of doing better, but he at least thought they were cool.  I hung onto my first completed Rick Dom 2 from this line from 20+ years ago.  I'm glad Bandai included the SMG and Panzerfausts with the Revive version of that kit.

Very well done Maestro, you make me want to try this ancient kit again at some point in the future.  11/10.

Those circuit board drill bit sets are worth every penny.

水性塗料ならマジックリンで落ちますけどね。
捨てサフに便利です。

I kind of wish Bandai made the X in Alex a separate decal from the other letters.  That long leg is a tearing hazard.

The Kampfer-ending pose is the best one outside of the beam saber stab at Bernie's Zaku II-F.

The Alex's rifle was a large-caliber G-3 / FAMAS hybrid AR with HEAT and APSDS rounds, not a beam rifle.  If you look at the inside of the shield, the Alex has 2 spare magazines, like a GM.  I think that's what made it cool, it was literally a walking Challenger 2 tank in 0080 with a lighter endoskeleton underneath if the armor was compromised.

うますぎい

The Alex actually looked good in dead flat.  I would've went semigloss myself.

Amuro had to fight the Zeong with his quasi-outdated RX-78-1 because the Zeons blew up his Alex at the Feddy Arctic Base.  That was like fighting a Tiger 2 with a 75mm Sherman.  Thankfully he pulled out the one-hitter quitter kill shot on the Zeong before being shredded by megaparticle finger cannons.

I don't think the Alex could get that close to the Sazabi.  Thankfully Amuro got the RX-93 Nu-Gundam by then.
