The transfer of Olmedo López and Sneyder Pinilla to La Picota prison has sparked a new debate about the security conditions of the former UNGRD officials, who have been cooperating with the justice system in the ongoing corruption scandal at the agency.
During the debate, panelists analyzed the government's decision to transfer them from military detention centers to La Picota, the differences between security and prison privileges, and the risks they could face while incarcerated. They also discussed whether the INPEC (National Penitentiary and Prison Institute) is capable of guaranteeing their protection while they continue to cooperate with the justice system.
José Luis Moreno Caballero, Olmedo López's lawyer, explained why the defense believes the transfer disregards a previous court order and warned of threats, attempted bribes, and other incidents that, he stated, demonstrate the risk to his client. He also confirmed that they will request a hearing to review the possible violation of the court order and addressed the continued cooperation of Olmedo López with the justice system.
