Adam Savage tours the USS Hornet, a decommissioned World War II aircraft carrier that's now an aviation and space museum with an impressive collection of aircraft and NASA artifacts on display. Getting around this historic ship involves a rare treat: a ride on one of the ‪@HornetMuseum‬'s aircraft elevators that move plans from the flight deck to the hanger deck at startling speed!

The USS Hornet is one of the places I always tell visitors to go when in the Bay Area

The editors understand their audience... getting to see the elevator from all the different angles was so satisfying!!

I had so much fun filming this with you Adam! I always love sharing the history of the USS Hornet and I hope I get a chance to work with you again someday!

My brother was in the navy and said he once heard a story of two brothers who were both serving on aircraft carriers. It wasn't until they got home for Christmas that they discovered they were on the SAME aircraft carrier, because they were that big.

My grandfather pulled the chocks for some of the Doolittle planes. He was on the CV8 till it sank and was saved by another ship. Aircraft carriers are amazing engineering at the fullest of scale.

Asking “tell me whats special about the hornet” as the camera pans to show the killboard is just a superb piece of editing genius

That visit to the Hornet should really be like a 10 part series, I cant enough of stuff like that. I'm seating here geeking out on all that just as much as Adam.

That intro was like Adam trying to outdo Kurtis at Cutting Edge Engineering 😂

My great grandfather served as a pilot on the USS Hornet CV8, and before he passed he told us stories about being in the boat when it was sunk. Absolutely insane to listen to, I miss him

This video could be the entire time he spent there uncut and I'd watch the whole thing...more please!

My father in law served 4 years on the Hornet, before he passed we came back for a night. It was fun to see him back in his element. I highly recommend going for the tour.

Hearing Adam say "That was a thing!!" From multiple angles never gets old. :D

Absolutely love seeing Adam on the USS Hornet! This ship isn’t just a floating piece of history it’s a Cold War veteran, a recovery ship for the Apollo 11 and 12 missions, and one of the most decorated aircraft carriers of WWII. Amazing how well-preserved it is, from the engine rooms to the flight deck. Big respect to the volunteers and museum staff who keep this legend alive for future generations!

I can't believe your channel just ... exists and posts videos like these everyday. So cool to see you doing stuff that you get excited for, they couldn't have picked a better person to appreciate all the engineering that goes into such a vessel.

My father is a docent on the USS Hornet and it is such an amazing museum ship with a dedicated and passionate staff making the whole thing tick. Please click the link Adam pinned and consider donating to help keep this historic ship sharing history with visitors.

I love watching two people absolutely geek out together! Someone eager to tell and another eager to listen. Brilliant

As a kid, I went on the Hornet when it came back from Japan after a deployment in about mid 1960's. An "uncle" was coming home. The middle deck was completely filled with new motorcycles.
It was enormous to me.
