[[NOTICE 2]] [[it's been a lil bit]]

I just came back from a trip (Green Bay, shoutouts to Packers fans, sorry the Falcons won that game 😭) and I got SICK which is just lovely. Please see my recent post for a tiny bit of info on what I'm doing next. Thank you love y'all muah 💚

Also 48k views wtf where did y'all come from

it's funny that the only way to tell that "bowser" in world 3-4 is a buzzy beetle by using fireballs, because they're immune to them otherwise

I'm a little confused as to why you wouldn't just count the respawning enemies once each.
Like, just because a piranha plant lives in a pipe you can come out of, it doesn't get counted at all since it's possible to respawn?

I think I probably would have just stuck an asterisk next to any that could respawn. Like, you've generally got one Lakitu tn levels he appears in but he can respawn, and he has infinite spinies, but there can only be 3 on the screen at a time so that sounds like 3 respawning spinies to me.

well, the whole this is arbitrary anways  so good job, thanks for the entertaining video

I feel like instead of not counting the respawning enemies you should of just counted them as one per unique spawn location

[[NOTICE]]

I am looking at the comments, evaluating all responses and I will address concerns as I see needed. I will be checking over level 6-2 as noted from one user, and if I am incorrect I will pin a new comment.

Thank you guys for the great responses!

Edit:

ngl I kinda don't like the way I presented certain things, I'm going to do better on the next video

If you did this for Lost Levels I think you would lose your mind💀

You forgot the most vile enemy in the game…

…Toad

If you use(read: cheat) a star in castle levels, podobos can be killed and do NOT respawn

Thank you for your service. I can finally rest easy at night knowing that there is an average of 13.8 fish on that bridge level.

That "Oops! ALL Cheep Cheeps" edit is fire.

mushroom kingdom census data of 1985. truly brilliant!

Very cool of Dr W.D. Gaster to come read the level names for you

Buzzy beetles are the most common enemies in the game because they replace tons and tons of goombas in the second quest, and goombas are the second most common enemy type.

I would argue the respawning enemies should count as 1 IF there is no route through the level that avoids them, like the Lakitu & Spiney in 4-2, or especially 6-1. The whole level is built around the Lakitu and not counting it just feels wrong. Same with Bill Blasters
Also world 7 is 'baby mode' because it's specifically focused on respawning enemies, which....again kinda makes it seem odd not to count them at all

Standart route: Go forward, get to the flag.

Pipe route: ✱ Mario, YOU actually changed!

i like the editing style of this video. the screens showing the enemy count/types from each world/level were cool. i like the way you did it rather than just slapping a bunch of pngs on the screen.

This was a very interesting video to watch! Thank you so much for taking almost over a year to make it (i’m assuming, as you had stated in the intro if i recall).

bro got a 1up mushroom
heh, little gamer joke there, if you know you know

There are actually more enemies that you don't see loaded at first. You can check them by jumping over the flag poles or opening level editors

As a few others have said, it would make sense for respawning enemies with a fixed spawn location (i.e Lakitu, enemies in looping castles) to count as a single enemy.
If you wanted to save yourself a bit of time counting in future videos, you could find a level editor or level map to use as a reference.  Usually not too hard to find something especially with the age of these games.
Since World -1 was brought up in the stats, it's worth noting that the Famicom Disk System version has a different Minus world, with 3 unique levels!  (Although -2 is an exact copy of 7-3)  Talk of the minus world also brings up the thought of other glitch worlds which are technically accessible through cartridge swapping with NES Tennis, some of which having unique enemy layouts.
