One of my uncles was in a very short term coma from an OD. My dad stayed in his room and read him Huckleberry Finn so he would have some stimuli. Doc told my dad that he could still hear what was happening around him so it would be beneficial. When he finally came to he was convinced he and my dad went rafting down a river

My dad was hit by a car at 16 and was in a coma for 3 months, he ended up having part of his brain removed to reduce swelling strain on it. When he woke he was told he’d never walk, talk or function on his own again. After years of physical therapy he finally regained his ability to walk and even more so, went on to work and provide for my family for 18 years. Now he’s 53 (I’m 24) and he’s ability is declining again. He’s had to have emergency surgery on his spine and the doctors say he’s in Cognitive decline. But I’m so proud of him. He went through all that and raised a family. I’m almost convinced he did it out of sheer spite lol
My dads a miracle and I just wanted to share his story

imagine you survived a traumatic event that kills most, you recover fully and are almost ready to return to normal life. and then you get slapped with a medical bill that's quintuple your worth

Literally not even paying attention to the video because I’m reading all the crazy comments of people’s comas

It's mind-boggling how Humans are either the most resilient unkillable beings, or fragile helpless creatures that die to a minor medical problem, no inbetweens sometimes

I shit you not, two weeks ago I was put into a medically induced coma for a week because I had gone into septic shock from an infected bone from an infected wound. It was the second coma I’d been in in my life. This time I woke up, head turned to mush for a bit, and half of my right leg was gone. I’m currently at a rehab center relearning how to transfer and function again (I was already disabled and use a wheelchair and have had 14 surgeries in my 34 years) but I can say I have woken up from a coma twice!

This reminds me of the story of my old English teacher.
About 10 years ago, he fell off a ten story balcony and went into a coma for months. He broke multiple bones and was told he would never wake up, then sit up, so on and so forth. He made a full recovery however, and is able to walk perfectly fine with a bit of a limp to this day.
He’s a very lovely man and an excellent teacher.

My comment will probably be buried but thank-you for this video. I lived the reality of the ‘realistic’ side of things just this year, my mother hit her head after we think fainting and falling off the stairs during the night. She suffered a severe TBI, 3 on the Glasgow Scale and unfortunately did not wake up. She passed away 13 days later after making the tough decision to stop her life support.
While we all hoped for a miracle we knew realistically it wasn’t possible, but the doctors did everything in their power to try and I will continue to be grateful to them and the NHS for everything they did for her.
It was wonderful to read everyone else’s comments on success, because going through the pain of that is not one I would wish on anyone.
If anyone did read this, thank-you for your time, it’s hard to talk about but over the internet not so much.

i was in a coma for 4 weeks in 2022 because of sepsis, and when my wife came to visit me when i woke up she put on your video about Frankenstein so i could try to focus on something. i was still in and out of consciousness and it was like an incredibly vivid, fully narrated nightmare

When you wake up from a coma and live 40 years, only to realize the lampshade seems a little off💀

When I woke up from my 3 month coma, I was strapped down to the bed, had a trach in and couldn't speak. The first thing I saw was a dark room and a computer with a black background and red letters on the screen. I didn't know where I was or what was going on and my first thought was, "they're trying to harvest my organs!" I was so confused and scared, but the nurses and doctors allowed me to see my family via zoom and it helped alot. They told me what happened and that I was going to be ok. They were all crying because they didn't think I'd come back.

Coming from someone who has had sleep paralysis multiple times, I can totally understand the brain just… not wanting you to move it’s limbs.

That takes like 7 minutes and its kinda hard to move the body even if you know its sleep paralysis. The hands and feet are the easiest to wake up, but it’s always the fingers, maybe even toes that start for me

I always appreciate how Metal Gear Solid V took the time to explain the extensive practices done to preserve Venom's body while comatose and the game STILL starts with him horrendously withered and barely functioning

My aunts (then) fiance was hit by a drunk driver and put into a coma just two weeks before they were supposed to get married - and she was 6 months pregnant. He didn't wake up until my cousin was about a month old...everyone was sure he was going to die. Even when he "woke up" it took forever for him to actually stay conscious for long. Everything was a struggle.
Even worse and more terrifying than waking from the coma, though, was the effects of the brain damage. He became a completely different person. Paranoid. Angry. Violent. My grandma described it as though it was like a cliche horror movie where the evil twin takes over. He went from being an extremely patient, kind and helpful young man who volunteered at the soup kitchen and a school for severely mentally disabled children to someone who was convinced the phone book held secret messages about those conspiring to murder him, snapping at the slightest thing and abusing my aunt to the point she had to get a restraining order.
Now that is a terrifying thought. Having no control over something that can change you like that.

17:06 my grandma was not in a coma, but she has sepsis and had been unresponsive or just responding with grunts and facial expressions with her eyes closed for about a week. Then suddenly she was wide awake, having conversations, it was amazing. She passed two days later, but I’m so grateful for that time ❤
