The studio version is absolutely beautiful.  The entire Images and Words album is fantastic.

For me, the best band EVER.

Dream Theater is a rabbit hole to go down! Listen to the song "A Change of Seasons" which is 1 song that lasts for 23mins. Then listen to album "Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory" from start to finish as the whole thing is 1 story with different chapters.  Incredible stuff.

Glad to see DT on the channel. James LaBrie is very much known for this “shouty” high belt, and you were absolutely right in pointing out that he tends to kind of stick his tongue out when he’s singing a high, extended note.

This is their BEST line-up ever!!! Images And Words (Another Day is one of the tracks) is the BEST Prog Metal album of all time! ❤❤❤

They HAVE NOT had a lot of musicians come and go. That IS INCORRECT!

More Dream Theater please!!!!! Only two people have come and gone. Keys and drummer and the original drummer is back!!

Although it seems there have been many changes in the lineup, it's not that many for a band formed 40 years ago and still going. It's essentially two singers: James LaBrie, who has been in the band for most of the band's history, and Charlie Dominici who sang in the first album. (there's also Chris Collins but he's only in the demo when they were called Majesty. Three keyboardists: Jordan Rudess has been the longest in the band, playing in the last 11 albums; Kevin Moore, who played in the first 3 albums, and Derek Sherinian who played in one album and one EP (which was written in Kevin Moore's era, but recorded with Derek for the official release). Two drummers: Mike Portnoy who formed the band, left in 2010 and came back in 2023; and Mike Mangini, in the band from 2011 until 2023 (5 albums with him). The most famous regarded lineup is with Mike Portnoy and Jordan Rudess, which is the current lineup after Portnoy rejoined the band; but many fans (me included) prefer the Kevin Moore era. I still deeply adore all the music they have made and all their eras.

Also, it would be really interesting if you heard something from their live album Score (Under a Glass Moon would be my pick) or their latest live album Quarentieme from Paris in 2024 (maybe go with Hollow Years or Barstool Warrior).

James LaBrie's voice in A Change of Seasons is also awesome

James Labrie has an amazing range and power in those days. Always a fan of him and his approach of the tough material.

This is easily one of the best reaction videos I've seen for singers. James is controversial in the metal world, as he has had issues with his voice strating in the mid to late 90's and took a while to get back on track. Even then, age takes a toll, so it's unreasonable to expect his voice would be the same +10 years later. Sure, it doesn't mean it gets worse or necessarily loses range, but there are unavoidable changes in color. I've seen James on GREAT nights and some spotty ones, still I can't help but be in awe. He's been inconsistent live, but as a singer myself, I don't think people realize how difficult some pf these songs are to sing. The range is immense, and there is so much dynamic shifts and unintuitive intervals. His passagio is constantly being crossed up or down, and as my voice is a bit lower than his, many of the tracks he recorded are especially difficult. For a long time their concerts were 3+ hours long too- that kind of endurance is hard to come by

Thank you for being honest in your reviews. I am glad you call out singers’ mistakes instead of just always commenting on the positive aspects.

John Petrucci = Legend. As a guitar player - I am so glad I have had the pleasure of seeing him play live

YAAAASSSSS

Fuckin love this song, so underrated in their catalog.

yeah this is a ballad so more quiet and slow. I think "Metropolis pt.1" should be a more interesting 1st idea of this group style and composing. I also recommend "Under a glass moon" :)

Very nice reaction. This is one of my favorite bands. Been a fan for close to 30 years now. Such talented musicians and complex music (not so much this song for complexity) and they definitely moved more towards metal as the years went by. More DT please!

90s James LaBrie is freakin GOAT. His voice was insane, super wide range and so much power

Thank God we live in a time when Dream Theater is creating their masterpieces and we can witness that talent in almost every note! I've been with them since 1995., right after the release of the Awake album, and of course I've listened to everything from the beginning, from Majesty to today.

The saxophone here gives me the chills every time, no matte how many times i listened to it...

He has had well documented vocal struggles. He is an amazing singer, and he committed to getting help and continuing to sing his way thru these difficulties.  One of my favorite singers ever.
