In my opinion, they are simply the best pop band ever. They were certainly underestimated in the US at the time, but not in the rest of the world.

Hailing from a small, non-English speaking country that (before them) had no place on the international music stage, they didn't tour much and their image was "a bit boring" (no scandals...) compared to other major acts of that era.

But despite all that, they managed to become the second most successful pop band in history with over 400 million physical albums/singles sold! Purely based on the power of their songs, production quality and delivery with those unique blend of incredible voices

the song they probably had the most doubts about what it would ultimately be like. Their most famous biographer writes in his book about them, among other things, that they spent a lot of time and recorded many versions of this song - even one of them lasted about 15 minutes - but they were not satisfied with any of them (including the one they finally released).
I agree that the live performance of this song is good, but I prefer the longer studio version with (among other things) strings in the introduction ; Also, the vocal arrangements are magical etc..

I wish that the guys(especially in that period when part of the mainstream (mainly in the UK and US) began to grossly disparage certain musical styles) had not suddenly become so negative in evaluating some of their own songs (especially these, mostly disco) - I don't say that I know better than the two of them themselves, but time has shown that many of their songs have experienced undeserved neglect from their own authors (B/B)

You picked a great song to react to. Thanks for not stopping in the middle of it.

Alway Been A Very Favorite Song...

My fave ABBA song! Also one of the best songs bout night! dbl ♥

Benny and Bjorn were never happy with this song but I and many fans love it.

ABBA in the 70's and 80's was just one big hit, song after song was a dance phenomenon!!  What a great time for music from 100's of bands!!  19 top 100 hits in Australia says it all.

Underrated ABBA banger.

ABBA 🖤❤️❤️❤️

The live version of this song is amazing🔥 too ('Live in Wembley Arena '79').
Take care, Stan ✌️
Love ❤️ from Chile 🇨🇱🤗🤓👌

Agnetha toots!🤩By the way Mr. Stan, you know we need more YES! You need more YES! Just letting you know, "The Gates of Delirium" are open and awaiting your arrival!🤩

So nice to see you again with another reaction to ABBA songs

"Summer night city" (1978)
was composed by ABBA to pay homage to its capital city Stockholm (in Sweden)
hence are the images of this and all the official ABBA videos
(only exception: "Chiquitita" in the Alpine area of Switzerland)

I think this video was shot in 'real time'
I mean, the ABBA members went to a disco night, including the next sunrise

(the couple of the brunette Frida & Benny were the most nocturnal and energetic,
in contrast to the more familiar of blonde Agnetha & Björn)

the musical rhythm is influenced by the success of BEE GEES
with the soundtrack of the film "Saturday Night Fever"

I think that the live version in Wembley 1979 will blow away you
for ABBA fans is different and better than these studio recording

Unfortunately they did not include it in the compilation album "ABBA Gold" (1992)
and its composers Björn & Benny were never satisfied with the final arrangement,
they had other options, live they did it with a slow intro and a vibrant ending

it was their last #1 in Sweden
(until the current comeback in 2021 with "Don't shut me down")
and #5 in UK, among other charts

ABBA was a very versatile group, although its essence and musical identity is Europop,
that year they experimented with disco sound with this song and their next album "Voulez Vous"

next ABBA song could be
"Hole in your soul" (1979)
another hiden gem and another musical genre
it haven't official video
but the live perfomance in 1979 Will schock you , It's ABBA Best live song in Concert

I hope to see you soon
My best regards from
Buenos Aires Argentina 🇦🇷

Th elive version is closer to the version they would have preferred to release and has more of a rock fell to it you should check that one out

You should react to ABBA’s Does Your Mother Know, sung by the guys. It is good.

Have you done "Move On"/"Our Last Summer".2 marvelous ballad-deep cuts which missed the chance to be  singles.Same gos for the  "If it wasn't for the Nights" and the funky 'As good as new".
