In Wind Gap boys aren't allowed to have soft emotions and girls aren't allowed to have violent ones, even Adora kills with "kindness", that's why it's so surprising

I think they believed it because the alternative is admitting the danger is normal and local

I found it so strange how the town very clearly new what Amma was about, as in her and her friends drinking, going to parties and yet they all still described her as a perfect doll. Like there was some hiding from her part, but they were out in the streets, people could see them. They just chose to not talk.

Everybody in that town is complicit. Even the ones ‘just minding their business.’

Gillian Flynn is a master at writing female rage and violence and she struck underrated gold with Sharp Objects.  This is a perfect review, though one small correction is that Faith’s mother’s sexuality was never confirmed, just that she was thought to be part of a lover’s suicide with another girl that could have been a murder suicide.

They didn’t believe it. They preferred it. There’s a difference.

I watched this years ago and was so frustrsted by the lack of reaction from the media! So delighted to see this!! ❤

I think it’s wild to watch a show like Sharp Objects and draw the conclusion that women have too much power.

I watched this show weekly with my mom (I had read the book and at least knew the big triggers going in, and I didn’t want to watch something with themes around self harm alone).

Mom tells me she still thinks about the ending of the show and how well told the story was. We gushed about Patricia Clarkson’s performance as Adora, and how well the entire cast worked together.

I actually think the town half knows like people sense what’s wrong and then immediately talk themselves out of it

Just watched this show and was very excited to see you have some videos covering it! I thought it was absolutely fantastic writing. I was shocked I hadn’t heard more about the story.

One thing I want to add onto for the main point in this video, which may be a separate concept entirely to a degree, is that I believe Adora was protected by more than the cultural concept of her being a mother. Her being the entire towns economy basically set her up as wildly untouchable. 90% of the working people in the town worked for her. She was consistently abusing her power as not just “an” elite but THE elite.

Not me nodding the whole time like yup yup yup.

These enablers definitely need to be punished just as much as the abusers.

It feels like a very slow gradual plausible deniability honor killing

the reason I resonate with the themes within the book so much is the brutal reality of the ignorance when it comes to the acknowledgement of cycles of violence and generational curses in the south. Adora hurts so that people will praise her and she has the control, Camille hurts because its all she's ever understood, Amma hurts to be seen and noticed the way she believes she can only be once she's dead. They are all the same.

This is one of the best shows I’ve ever watched. I really, really need to read the book. I really love how it’s an instance that a woman took advantage of the patriarchy, but for insidious reasons, which also play into the patriarchal system.

7:27 Ooh. Great adage. What an input. As for those so-called Social Norms which make way for the bounds wherein Wind Gap as a Community is always primed to create such rebel outbursts, clearly marks the highlight factor.
