A lot of people think of the direct abuser as the only "bad guy" but an enabler still fundamentally fails to protect the children in their care, and is part of the problem for allowing it to continue.

It honestly reminds me of the Ruby Franke case, the father there as far as I’m aware also hasnt been charged for his part in the neglect & abuse of his children.

6:03 this type of father figure reminds me of Fleabag's dad in Fleabag. Throughout Fleabag, he neglect her and Claire, marrying their godmother who is horrible and always somehow making Fleabag the scapegoat. He too is funny, pleasant and that makes it so easy to forget how much he neglected his two daughters after their mother died

Sharp Objects is the best adaptation of a novel i have ever seen.  I love literature and usually am annoyed or even angered by all the changes the adaptations make.  But this one not only is extremely true to the narrative and dialogue- it translates the physical descriptions and general atmosphere into a filmic language that actually capture the atmosphere created by the text. 10/10.

Considering how much of evil and abuse we as the society enable and shut our eyes from, there is a little Alan in all of us.

It is a little on the nose that Alan listens to "Call Me Irresponsible" as he shirks all responsibility for his children.

Sharp Objects is my favourite book and tv series. Its so deliciously dark and brutal. It doesn't wimp out on the horrors of girlhood.

Honestly, the enabler sometimes hurts the most. The abuser is sick and you can wrap your head around that. But it's much harder to understand the "sane" enabler. Because you know they can tell the differance between right and wrong and ignore it. Abusers are nothing without their enablers.

That was a harsh and very accurate assessment of a man without any self identity. I infer from the given information, that before being Adora's husband. He was someone's son and he did as he was told. I saw it premiere. It was a story of a lost soul trying to find their way. It can only be found from understanding your origins. The certainty of lies is more appealing than the uncertainty of human frailities, to many. This seems to be true of Wind Gap, IMO.

In a place full of monsters, what is more monstrous than doing nothing?  There's definitely a lot to mull over in this very poignant time...particularly in a, uh, "southerly" place.

I couldn’t tell that Alan was the stepdad at first honestly, til Camille directly called him by his name in conversation. Alan seems so removed from the entire home, besides where he listens to his records. In the first episode of the show I thought, this is the most haunted house with people living in it I’ve ever seen and I think Alan is a testament to that, he’s a ghost in his home, his relationships, even in his decisions he seems to always act with indifference.
