ALRIGHT! You convinced me. I'll watch the LOTR trilogy (extended version) again... for the millionth time.

Peter Jackson: "Frodo has to be British."
Sees an 18-year-old American actor from Iowa
Peter Jackson: "He's perfect."

So Elijah won the role by sheer professionalism and over the top commitment to quality, built on a decade of serious acting alongside the best in Hollywood.

Right from that first poster of Frodo holding the One Ring in his palm, he looked like a Raphael painting brought to life!

@lipingrahman6648 2 months ago

He should be very thankful to his mother. Given the predatory nature of Hollywood he could have had the dark fate of a lot of child actors.

There are so many aspects to the production of these films that so perfectly reflects the story itself. Gandalf is played by an elite, experienced master of his craft, Aragorn by an unexpected hero and Frodo by an ordinary person from a small town suddenly called to an exiting but terrifying and burdensome adventure in a far away land.

That last glowing, beautific smile crushes me every time. I’m so glad Frodo left us with that…such a gift.

The audition tape has never been released. Wood said he believed he still had a copy. Apparently, it must be kept secret.

@marcusmt4746 2 months ago

That's how you shoot a true masterpiece.
You can never get that kind of dedication from a team filming silly corporate nonsense.
Literally everyone has to believe in the common cause and give their all to the work.

0:46 - expecting someone to carry a big production at the age of 18 IS a big deal, but at that point Elijah had already been the lead character in over a DOZEN films! He'd been acting for over a decade at that point, longer than some of the older cast members.

@360.Tapestry 2 months ago

why is his face equally sculpted and angular and yet youthful and angelic ??? lol

I think you missed a key point in Elijah's story: he was a Tolkein nerd. He was driven by his love for LOTR and for Frodo, so when he couldn't get the script from Jackson's office he went straight to the source material to make his DHS tape. I was disappointed that you didn't show some of that DHS audition!

He absolutely had to be an Iowan. Iowa is basically the Shire.

Everyone I know that has met Elijah has nothing but great things to say about him. He really seems like a solid human besides being a great actor.

@bethaniejomceowen5067 2 months ago

I knew about Viggo basically being the literal embodiment of Aragorn, but I never realized until now how much respect I have for Elijah as an artist. They both deserved these roles 1,000%.

Been a fan of Elijah since about 1990 when I was a kid. I realized he was hella talented even then. I just remember thinking, man, this kid can act! You really can't go wrong with him, he's a phenomenal actor! Glad he's kept himself out of the Hollywood quagmire.

I am so sad Elijah didn't receive any major awards for playing Frodo. 😭 He was so wonderful with such vulnerability and emotional range he displayed in the role astounded me. No one else could have done it better. 😊👌

@bmartinsds 2 months ago

Now that was a killer combination of both being supportive, recognizing talent, and vision from his mother.

@Scones777 2 months ago

To me he always performed the role of Frodo beautifully! Taking that on at 18 is impressive. The biggest complaint I've seen about movie Frodo is that he is too passive and weak, but I feel that is as much or even more a script and directorial decision. Enjoyed the video!
