I'm a metallurgist; that corrosion on the aluminium is caused by salt,moisture and possibly some galvanic corrosion from contact with stainless steel. The salt comes mostly from sweat, or salt on the roads, not so much seawater.

Some people sweat I guess. With a steel bike after 3 bike resprays due to surface rust I started wearing a Halo headband, now the biggest size to divert sweat, when riding into my clothes. In cycle-commuting in warm weather I would drip sweat every few seconds into my eyes and then the bike. Now I clean the bike regularly and apply ACF 50 anti-corrosion into the joints/edges where the rust would start. The ACF 50 comes out like a watery foam, so there’s low risk of contamination No rust since.

The very first bike i maintained myself in 2020 was a cheap no name trekking bike from 2006 or something. It was never cleaned in all these years and every part was rusted together. But it still looked less crusty than this one after 3 years. I'm simply impressed. Glad only few parts were bad on this one.
