The issue with the question “Why do they do this?” is that it assumes a single, universal answer when, in reality, motivations vary from person to person. It's much easier to answer when focusing on an individual case. Some may be driven by a sexual attraction to minors, while others may simply take advantage of an opportunity. Some seek control over someone they perceive as vulnerable, while others act due to past trauma—or for reasons unrelated to it. There’s no one-size-fits-all explanation.

thank you guys for discussing this documentary and the subject matter with care (like always). i could talk about the exploitative nature of nonfiction media for a long time, but all I'll say for now is that you guys echo my sentiments especially given the troubling sensationalization of a certain rap battle that took place last year that completely abandoned care for potential victims in any way. it's not a joke and it's not just something to dance/sing along to.

I haven’t seen this yet but one of the things I remember about watching them when they first came out was no one could believe how rampant this problem was. If nothing else good came out of it, at least people became aware of the seriousness of this issue.

This sounds like it would be a good double feature with the Jerry Springer documentary

This sounds like an interesting look into how this show was produced. I always wondered how the decoys felt about being put in potentially dangerous situations. The “continuation” series of TCAP, Hansen vs. Predator, became popular with young people and I’ve seen a lot of amateur copycat YouTubers trying to do the same thing. It’s disturbing to see.

I so appreciate your concern about the changed tone about a serious topic.

Great point that the more modern iterations of this genre are less respectful of survivors, I feel the same.

I think the 2005 movie “Little Children” did a good job of portraying the predat0r and the vigilantes who continuously pursue him and his mother

Thank you for your take on this. Wildly, Skeeter is crazy successful on YouTube. It’s hard to believe.

This reminds me of the Maury show and those infamous DNA test episodes. Looking back, it seems like a lot of the guests were being traumatized without even realizing it. And those kids—now adults—had their pictures broadcasted everywhere. I can only imagine how they feel about that today.

Joseph better make a video of him petting Agnu 😢😂

This definitely hits different as I was a victim at a much younger age than the decoys in the series and I definitely appreciate the points that y’all discussed about the show in general.the main goal should NOT be a paycheck/money but definitely incarcerate and possibly rehabilitate these individuals

Cat action!! Always appreciated.

One of the episodes of Takedown the documentary looked at involved an 18 year-old high school boy in Michigan who tried to hook up with a 15 year-old. The 18 year-old was predictably hysterical and in tears. Fully fledged adults who try to sleep with underage teens are obviously vile, but anyone who thinks an 18 year-old drama club student should be threatened with a long jail term and national humiliation for hooking up with a 15 year-old needs their head examined. That's such a horrible thing to do to a teenage gay kid.

Im guilty of watching that show too. The good part is they were exposed. The other part of actually watching it? Well....I guess that's up for a debate.
