Batter returns to the batter's box and hits again.  Count returns to what it was before the bunt.

Once umpire calls dead ball all plays are dead , no runner advances no outs is recorded therefore umpire must reset the play in this case , it is umpire’s mistake therefore all runners go back to their bases and the batter goes back to hit again , this way neither team gets penalized for umpire’s mistake call

Of all the call options they had to choose from, their decision sure seemed to be the least fair, and honestly to me, the worst option. I would have said replay the at bat or call the batter out.

that umpire needs to retire.  calling it dead in error and then not having the intestinal fortitude to claim the error.  results it runner out at first.  30 seconds max to make it right.

As an ex-umpire this should not even be a question.  All runners back to bases and batter assumes count before dead ball.

Man this is the longest review I ever seen in sports. I could even see the ball never touched the batter.

They blew that call , dead ball , reset .

I'm not a softball umpire, but my understanding is the rule is essentially the same as MLB—place the runner as if the correct call had been made in the first place. It's very clear the batter-runner would have been out.

The levels of incompetence in handling this are staggering.

They gave Arkansas a free base when was even thrown out.

I am just gonna say that It sure did look like the Florida coach had already told the umpire "I'm gonna walk away and come back so you can throw me out"  this way his team would get fired up about this unforgettable inning.

Worst call I’ve ever seen in my life

Not a fan of Walton but agree with his displeasure. As an umpire myself, I feel like it should have been reset (with the batter back at the plate) since the umpire declared a dead ball thus killing the play.

I know some rules are screwy but isn't that call very simple ?  A dead ball (rightly or wrongly) means the play ends.  No player advances.  The batter had never reached first base, therefore can't advance to first base.

Florida ended up winning the game in the 9th inning with a walkoff grandslam

Play should be dead once the umpire made the call. They would have been lucky just to get a do over. Giving them a base when she was out regardless, is ridiculous

I’m at 13:30 of the video. The only thing I can guess, is the home plate umpire called dead ball because he thought the pitch hit her hand on the bunt????
But if that’s the case, the Batter is the one who REACHED out to bunt.
She did not “get hit” by the ball. She created a nonexistent circumstance for the ball to hit her.
And I’ve never seen these teams before.
At the end now. I knew they’d make the wrong call.
