With the Digimon Adventure anime getting a reboot in 2020 and the game Digimon Survive coming not much later, I thought it was about time we broke open the surprisingly deep cultural inspirations that gave Digimon it's form. Starting with the most famous (or infamous) of ALL Digimon, Renamon!

Sorry this one was a bit late gang. Had a LOT of delays but it's here! Plus, a Which Ninja on Predator will be out in less than a week!

Digimon. Finally you start talking about it. It has so much potential, this and persona

Like i said, Digimon has enough culture to fill entire landfills. Edit: I know Japan is your forte, but DO NOT be afraid to step out of your comfort zone with this franchise. As opposed to Pokemon's 890, there are over 1400 Digimon and counting, spanning FAR beyond Japanese folklore. Hell, there's one Digimon, Dagomon (or Dragomon in English), based on Cthulu.

Of all the images you picked, it had to be one with Renamon giving a very cute and somewhat smug Smile.

Is nice.

"This isn't going to get weird is it?"

It's Renamon, that's all the answer you need.

Oh yeah, Renamon. She's a really ''loved'' character. XD

I swear that is the S M O O T H E S T transition of an AD I've ever seen

Growing up watching all these, not knowing these shows were called anime at that time. Ah I miss those days

Yeah, Renamon is a big reason why I had massive crush on her tamer. Both were so cool to my eight year old mind, and helped that I thought foxes were super cool.

Your attracting the japanophiles and the furry community at the same time...

How come i have not seen this before?! What an act of genius.

8:45 "Then why do they look the same?" It's called palette swapping.

This, is the most perfectly embedded sponsorship I have ever seen. xD

"Isn't it strange how yokai are now essentially basic netcode"
Half of SMT is that. Actually, more like 80%.

Cyber Sleuth touches a bit on that too, though.

"Renamon is based on a kitsune"
Yes, the floor here is made of floor!

I knew she was based on some kind of mythology but didn't know what kind until years later. Renamon was my favorite Digimon character... and also the reason I was a furry at age 9 and have a thing for foxgirls now.

Digimon is a franchise a bit harder to maneuver with. Each anime season and media explain digimon differently. Even the Digital World may be an isekai or the internet itself.

"For there is one digimon that the internet will continuously pound on the door until the hinges break."

Glares

I mean... Your not WRONG. But PHRASING!

Yes, please, more Digimon. I’ve been waiting for Digimon forever. You’ve got a lot of Digimon based off of Shintoism to Judeo-Christianity to the Greek and Roman pantheon. There’s so many of them to choose from and they outnumber Pokémon by the hundreds.
