How Digimon Frontier Broke The Mold

Digimon Frontier was one of the biggest departures the Digimon anime had ever taken.

In this video, we'll look at how Digimon Frontier broke the mold established by the first three anime series, why the production team made those choices, and how well those experiments actually worked.

We’ll cover the origins of Spirit Evolution, Frontier’s Super Sentai influence, its unusual Digital World, the changing role of Takuya and Kouji, the Ten Legendary Warriors, Lucemon, and why Frontier remains such a strange and fascinating entry in Digimon history.

It's funny how Digimon Frontier was my first digimon series. As a kid I thought it was basically animated power ranger thought the spirit evolution was cool, than i go to the rest of the franchise and found out it's the expectation and not the norm. I think that's why it holds a specail place in my heart regardless how contraversal it is

Frontier is easily my favorite season of Digimon. Thank you for showing as much appreciation as it deserves.

The fire dinosaur and light wolf always get special treatment

I liked it because it was unique and made it so the kids weren't just standing around. Tamers did it, but only with Biomerge near the end. But in Frontier, THEY fought. Themselves.

For me, Digimon frontier has some of the highest potential of any animated series I've ever seen, and it gets a LOT of things right to. You mentioned a good amount of them, but the transformation sequences and the music that accompanies them, even more so in the dub with the exception of hyper-spirit, are definitely some of the most well done sequences I've ever seen, down to the little baby details.

Now seeing this as Sentai inspired, KaiserGreymon, and MagnaGarurumon are like Megazords, and Susanoomon is the Ultrazord. Except that they aren’t “piloted” by the group until the VERY end of the show

Really glad I found this channel.

Although Toei and Bandai will probably never remove the partner Digimons again, future Digimon animes will probably experiment a lot more.

you can clearly see this with Beatbreak where Digimon are more like energy vampires than Digital monsters and they completely stopped making it for children.

I almost feel like Frontier would´ve been as beloved as Tamers if everyone got a Hybrid spirit, if they fought the full royal knight ensamble and if we didnt have to watch near 8 fucking episodes of them losing to the Knights.

I've always had a soft spot for Digimon Frontier. While it does have its flaws, I can at least respect the fact that I tried to do something different with the typical Digimon formula. I just wish that everyone got equal amounts of importance instead of just becoming the Takuya and Koji show. All in all, Digimon Frontier isn't perfect, but it's a fun addition to the Digimon anime library.

I will always love Frontier, I have the most vivid memories of coming home from school to watch that sick intro and enjoy the show. Idc how hated it is amongst the larger community, for those of us who experienced it as our first real Digimon season that we watched all the way through and were old enough to retain the memories it was amazing

Can we get a video on Digimon Families? Ya know stuff like Metal Empire and Deep Saviors.

There have to be anomalies in it

One thing i think that could been done to keep the other cast members relevant was not having only Takuya and Kogi being the two who get to absorb the groups powers. Tomoki or Junpei could absorb the powers/elements of the others because their Digimon sprits were more suited to fighting the specific enemy at the time. This progresses the power system in the same way while letting everyone contribute.

I love Frontier. The fragmanted world was a really cool concept.

I watched the first four series of Digimon as a child and Frontier was by far my favorite, followed by Tamers

14:11 I'm willing to bet they saw fire dinasour and light wolf final form as the megazords.

I thought this was fine because there were still actual Digimon in the show, but too be honest, this show took out the best part, the relationship between the digimon and their Tamer. This was core element of my favorite one, Digimon Tamers, and this had none of that and replaced it with the friendship of the characters, which is fine. But, you get that in almost every anime.

6:30 Ah yes, Gargomon's evolution. Definately the Digivolution gone wrong that everyone thinks about when the think of Tamers. >Eyes look over to Megidramon<
