'Mis-matched tyres' front and rear dangerous? Nonsense, in my opinion and experience. Dreamed up by tyre manufacturers to get you buy more tyres or replace one before it is worn out.

Freddie, I'm a Kawasaki Technician in the NE part of the USA. My dealer got 2 Kawasaki Hybrids when they first came out. We had a couple customers take interest, but after the test ride, they didn't like the idea of shifting with your fingers and not having an actual clutch. Recently we sold 1 of the hybrids for well under dealer cost, customer basically came in, wanted one and only had $3000 USD Cash on hand. My manager wanted the bike out of the inventory so bad, he approved to sell it for $3000.

I think your right that Kawasaki just didn't market the bike well, but being someone who works on them every day, I think they eliminated some features that would probably had allowed them to sell better.

I was recently asked by a colleague how I'm getting on with my latest bike, a BMW R1300 GS. I told him my favourite bike of all the ones I've owned was a Triton, but the best bike I've ever owned is the 1300 GS.
While the Triton has the best memories I strongly suspect the memory is better than the reality of owning a bike like that. If you're happy sitting in the garage fettling an old bike that's great, but for me it would be a hobby bike. No bike is perfect, but the BMW is something I can just get on and do anything I need or want in a trouble free way any time I feel like it without worrying about it breaking.

R 1150 GS..my last one (a 2001) was sold with 140 000 miles on it. I missed it so much I bought another, a 2003 GSA with lower mileage. Ive just returned from a 3000 miles trip doing the 'challenging' passes in Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, and back home with crazy mates. My travelling partners all had the latest stuff. Ducati Multistrada/BMW s1000 etc. I was the only one without traction control and auto suspension...But that paralever front end (with hyperpro racing shock :-) ) on the GS..amazing. I caught up in the corners. High point was passing lads on sportsbikes, full leathers, knee out up the Glossglockner. We went early before the crowds came out and I thrashed the hell out of that old GS. Bloody amazing machine. Its a keeper
