The golden age of the digital nomad is changing, and the old formula of cheap living, easy remote work, and endless movement doesn’t hit the same anymore. In this video, we break down the reasons behind it and why the next generation of people living abroad may be looking for something much more permanent.

Y'all's videos are always SPOT ON! Having been a slomad since 2018, I second everything you said here. It's a sad state of affairs that a relatively small group of people have made things difficult for the rest of us and I do not blame countries at all for looking out for their own people and protecting their resources. Lastly, I too am looking to settle down somewhere because I really desire long-term community. THANK YOU for another timely and helpful video!

Great video. I've been living/work in PDC, Mexico for about a year, renting locally. Before I was in Colombia (Medellin) then Jamaica, but once I came to Mexico, I found it hard to leave. Here and the U.S. are "home bases", while I visit other countries, most recently Brazil. I do find it hard to establish community sometimes, but I know that takes time. But the people here in MX seem genuinely kind, and they certainly don't have to be. They are also really encouraging when it comes to me practicing my Spanish.

As for the other countries cracking down on tourists: I don't blame them AT ALL. Some people don't have no home training! Even if Mexico were to do that, I wouldn't feel a way about it. Nomad/immigrant or not, we're guests. Bringing that BS to other countries and disrupting their peace is awful and shouldn't be tolerated.

8 years in Colombia and almost 2 in Ecuador and I remember the good old days when it was MUCH less expensive... you made some good points, and there wasn't anything that wasn't true.

It's sad how "those" people have messed it up for people who really want a better quality of life-exploring to find a place for long term residency. I think when it comes to community I don't necessarily want exactly what I had in the US, I want a totally different experience. A balance of connecting with some English speakers, but also assimilating locally. I am naturally curious and enjoy learning so my intentions are aligned with that- exploring history, culture, connecting with locals. I'm still learning and I appreciate you guy's perspectives. My take away is have the right mindset and be aware of how YOU are impacting the people and places around you - move with respect and integrity. I am looking for a long term/permanent home, I will still travel/vacay but my priority is finding the right place/residency. Thanks guys❤

Its because of
Massive bragging about how cheap food lodging and people were😢😢😢
Its like hello
Latin america
Asia
The locals over there in Asia and Latin America are on the internet, they wised up real quick
Seeing tourists and digital nomads bragging

Y'all are right on. You're right about all of it.

Yes. I live in Nashville and there are many "non-owner occupied short term rentals" coming here.

"Some people are comfortable being slaves" 😉 👏👏👏👏

Gotta love that truth. And they call it elitist when it's just facts.

As someone who understands and experienced the origins of both military 🪖 🎖️ side and Business travel side of travelling. I thank you for this video it explains......well HOW MUCH THE SPOTLIGHT on these places ruined these places and how yes all those things mentioned caused the end of digital nomading. However most digital nomads are always suppose to "graduate 🎓" into **EXPATS** whether full-time expat or part time expat which everyone hates this term "expat" but it's because they never understood it.

Salute 🫡 🖖 and I wish you both more time on and in your travels 🧳🥾 and hope you both continue to educate PROPERLY how to TRAVEL TO YOUR AUDIENCE /VIEWERS who may want to try this lifestyle IT IS NOT FOR EVERYONE and you drive this message home very well in this video.

I'm happy that the citizens are speaking up before it's too late. And that these countries are listening and doing something about it. Sadly, it's become a new form of colonization whereby people are selling a dream that they aren't really even living.

@missj8145 3 days ago

This was bound to happen. Sadly making prices higher for the locals.

I was in Mexico paying $2,100/night for a room where everything closed at 6 PM except the nightclub. Left the resort and paid $128 for 9 tacos. Thought I got robbed until a guy told me he and his 3 kids got 4 orders of bacon & eggs listed at "120". Turns out it was $120 USD, not pesos. $480 for eggs! I would’ve been writing this comment from a Mexican prison. 💀

True many influencers are saying our countries currency are cheaper than the dollar 💰🤑💰 and causing people to strike against tourists who cheapen the value of our countries currency 💲💵💲
They say our food is organic but cheap 😭 our hotels are cheap 😭 the women 😕 everything.. what's said on social media affected the digital nomads .
They devalue our community, country and people. So who needs such people? They abuse women sexual especially in East Africa

How many times can everyone go to the same country and report on it ... Thailand, Colombia, Brazil etc. Plus, the Passport Bros. didn't help the situation by putting there exploits in those countries on social media, making those countries change policies and charge them more money 😮

@UndomesticatedBoheme 3 days ago

Influencers and disrespectful/colonizing "expats" ruined it for those who left for the right reasons. Also, geopolitics and wealth inequality are playing a huge role in these changes as well.

I am so glad you two hit these subjects… I’ve traveled the world in the 80s and 90s it was starting then but with technology and capitalism and of course I got money mentality it is causing these problems… I would hang with the locals it’s better to get to know the culture

@thegreatkingleo 2 days ago

As someone who travels a lot, I think the biggest issue many people face when relocating to countries outside the US is trying to emulate the lifestyles showcased by people on YouTube. Upon arriving, they realize that this lifestyle is not for them, whether because of the cost, the food, or the culture. They come to the difficult realization that they would prefer the life they had back home.

When you are considering moving abroad, you should definitely try it out first before fully committing. Go there for a month to see if it is a good fit before you decide to give up your current life and move somewhere else.
