I forgot to mention in the video that OpenRCT2 had a bug for a very long time where the drop count and negative g requirements didn't get nullified by having an inversion. That was fixed only about 2 weeks ago, so if you're on a version older than that then the two small Flying Coaster designs will have their excitement cut in half. Update to the latest development version, or release v0.5.1 when that gets released, to have it work as shown in this video.

I really like the idea of the exit station being inverted; I can imagine the TV ads claiming the new coaster turns you upside down, and doesn't turn you back, and they do some editing to have a kid leaving the station upside down

Ah, now we know where Marcel's sadism originated. "They were upside-down for extended periods of time and I didn't see anything wrong with that."

It should be noted that the available inversions for both coasters in Vanilla RCT2 match the inversions seen on their irl counterparts. At the time of RCT2's release in 2002, the Vekoma Flying Dutchman had the inversions had loops, corkscrews, etc. However, the B&M flyer (which debuted that same year) only had inline twists and, in the case of Superman: Ultimate Flight, half loops.

I believe the reason the Lay Down coaster was called the Flying coaster is because in 2000 when Loopy Landscapes released, only Vekoma's Flying Dutchman model existed, so it was the defacto "Flying Coaster".

When Rct2 was released, the B&M Flying Coaster now existed too.

As the two very different models needed their own names, they chose Flying for B&M as the entire ride other than loading is in the Flying position, and the Lay Down for Vekoma as the Lay Down start is part of the gimmick of the Flying Dutchman model.

1:47 Child Marcel was doing his best to kill them too. He walked so you could run.

Very cool to see my designs featured! Thanks Marcel! I rode Tatsu at Six Flags Magic Mountain several years ago, these coasters can be pretty intense, especially in their signature Pretzel Loops!

Last time I was this early, I was watching a coaster being built from a nearby path

Having ridden both in real life I can say that these don't only defy expectations in the game. It's probably the one lone example where the Vekoma version of a ride is just genuinely better than B&M's equivalent. Too bad the Vekoma Flying Dutchman is now an extinct ride type (RIP Firehawk 😭)

3:00 While given that Chris Sawyer is from the UK the Corkscrew Coaster might indeed be based on the Vekoma MK-1200, however that model in itself is based on the Arrow Corkscrew Coaster. This is because Arrow teached Vekoma how to build that track and then allowed them to sell and build coasters based on that design on the European Market. Vekoma however was required to buy all Trains for these coasters from Arrow itself.

It's weird, this is the first time I've ever recalled you referring to an actual coaster manufacturer. Just figured you to be more of a gamer than a coaster enthusiast.

Didn't realize we'd never got this yet.
Cool.

RIP all the original Flying Dutchman coasters, they were crazy.

The reason why the vertical loops were not implemented on the flyer I have no clue, but granted the first B&M flyer galactica/air at Alton Towers came out the year RCT2 released, so nobody really knew what the B&M was actually capable of, it wasn’t until about 9 years later in 2011 when starry sky ripper in China opened, which is the only B&M flyer to have a vertical loop.

The Vekoma Flying Dutchman model always had a vertical loop, so yeah, it makes sense why there’s so limited options for inversions on the flyer.

The algorithm has blessed me. I have not played since I was a young lad but that may change soon, thanks for the videos! Well scripted, well spoken, and fantastic data you present. Well done. +1 sub

I wish the Wild Mouse got small and tiny quarter helices, that would make wild mouse designs more realistic

Born too late to explore the world. Born too early to explore space. Born just in time to explore the intricacies of RCT2.

I did not realize the semi-redundant coaster types were because of real-life manufacturers.

13:06 it's so cool to see my designs on a Marcel's video! Also, really interesting trivia about those coaster types, playing this game for decades and yet so much to learn.

9:53 The "4.33 nausea!" has the same energy as the "six and a half!" regarding the Space Rings in the worst flat ride video :P

im glad to be now informed more about the diffrent types of coaster than just being stuck to corkscrewcoasters

this video was the most expressive and enthusiastic ive ever heard marcel be. must be his secret favourite types of coasters
