Ernesto Cruz returned to Argentina and once again offered strong opinions on corn production.

The Mexican agronomist arrived in Río Cuarto to speak with RN Precision Agriculture and spoke with Valor Agregado Agro.

After stating last year that in Argentina “they don’t know how to plant,” Cruz acknowledged progress but pointed to new problems: poor machinery calibration, seed quality, and plant losses of between 15 and 20%.

“Why increase the plant population if you’re losing so many plants?” he questioned.

He also asserted that producers who three years ago were achieving normal yields are now reaching 14, 15, and 16 tons per hectare, and mentioned one case of 23 tons.

Furthermore, he again raised the issue of the limitations of no-till farming to achieve yields of 15 or 20 tons.
