Wet fly fishing will always be my number 1

What an ancient and wonderful world! Nowadays upstream wet fly fishing is almost forgotten because it is much more productive to fly the nymph, either in the traditional style with the line on the water or in the euronymph style, and the argument has shifted between dry anglers and nymph anglers. Dry anglers are much more tolerant towards the wet, which is often their second weapon.
Dry flies and wet flies have much more in common than it seems, because these ways to the trout are both depending on the surface while nymph fishing is more related to the bottom, the water depth etc.

Lovely old film, thanks for posting. As both a dry and wet fly fisherman of 72 years, on the River Ure in North Yorkshire, I believe both methods have their skills and the old dry fly purist at the end assumes that wet fly fishermen don’t cast to rising fish !  It depends on which part of the fly’s life cycle you are imitating. Sadly most of the up-winged dun and sedge hatches on the Ure where I fish are virtually gone, due to pollution and alleged climate change. The same can be said of the southern river Test chalk stream, where I fished three times a year for the last 15 years. All but the Mayfly have just about disappeared. Very sad how in my fishing lifetime I have experienced the best of fly fishing and latterly the worst.

Awesome movie, Mr. Smith. Awesome the flies, the place, even the never ending debate, I often wonder what they would have thought of the French NAF or NAV, or euro euronymphing or similar. Many fishermen do not consider at all of being philological to the most ancient angling sport, its literature, the studies, what is beyond the simple catching of a fish.

In a way, it's reassuring that dry fly anglers have been looking down on those of us who fish wet for many decades at least.  Their current disdain for us is not new; it's just the way it's always been (and probably will continue long after all of us are gone).

What a joy to watch Robert. I particularly enjoyed the gentleman's disagreement over  Wet and Dry fly fishing. I still have my original late 50's copy of Mr Crabtree goes fishing. I seemed to recognise some of the river scenery which looked similar to that which Ollie Edwards fished in his DVD's. May I ask whilst I'm writing, could you perhaps demonstrate the Yorkshire Greenwell that appears in your excellent book sometime. Once again, thank you for posting

Sobre todo en estos tiempos en los que , al menos en España, hay un auténtico furor entre la juventud por eso que llaman "euronynphing",  modalidad totalmente alejada de las delicias y placeres que proporciona nuestra forma de pesca.
