I love the idea of going on a vacation somewhere, but the entire time I’m there all I can think about is going home and sleeping in my own bed. 😅

I'm actually sitting here crying into my keyboard, because this is the FIRST time I've seen/heard my AuDHD described through a wholistic lens and it's the first time I haven't started checking boxes and gone "yep, yep, yep... oh FFS nope. I don't fit this either".

It also explains why I felt (and continue to feel almost two decades later) so very bereft when the Goth scene died in Melbourne. It was the ONE place I felt like 'home'. I could be around people/community without socialising, experience bright lights and noise, but be soothed in a dark space. I could stim and dance, but not have to worry about having to please other people while doing it, and I could wear a comfortable armour/buffer without actually masking. I miss it so much. I really noticed an dramatic increase in the severity of my symptoms (burnout, meltdowns, shutdowns, anxiety etc.) when I could no longer go to my clubs once or twice a week. I still, all these years later, haven't found another place that meets all my needs like the 90's early 2k's goth and metal clubs did.

I’ve never resonated with anything so much in my entire life. This is absolutely how I feel 100% of the time. My journey of self discovery, has just begun. im genuinely crying as my desk when i should be in bed right now at how much this video clears up the things that ive been asking to myself for YEARS "why does nothing work, strict schedules dont work and being freeform makes me unproductive"

i always knew i had AuDHD but was never really TOLD what that actually entails or how to navigate it it was just "oh you have autism and adhd so here have some pills for the adhd and heres a smaller classroom so you dont have meltdowns anymore" and that was it, I'm going to binge this entire channel and finally FIX MY INSUFFERABLE LIFE

I saw this in my recommended feed and clicked it out of curiosity, to listen to in the background as I play a videogame. The more I heard the more I went "wait, hang on, this is EXACTLY what my daily life feels like, how the hell do you know me so well?!" until I paused the game and focused my whole attention on this video.
I've been diagnosed with ADHD and suspected by psychologists of being autistic, and as I sat here listening to this I was utterly blown away at how precisely the descriptions I heard match the things I've always felt but have been unable to describe to others. It sounds like you're describing *me personally*. I'm shocked that none of my therapists or psychologists have ever brought up such a condition during our meetings.
I have no idea who you are. I've never heard of "AuDHD" before. But I think you may have just changed my life by introducing this to me.

Well, no wonder I have such a love for the word "ambivalent" (in its original meaning... and why I get so upset when people think it's the same as "indifferent", which is such a different thing.)

Well, that cinches it. In the two years since my ADHD diagnosis, I have found such incredible relief from the explanations I now have for every difficulty I've every experienced, but after the honeymoon period of all that discovery, I realized I was left with a host of things that didn't seem to line up and it has prevented me from relaxing into this new awareness of myself. This video, though, perfectly adressesses each one of those things--the opposing compulsions; the paradox of being agitated by things that bring you relief and vice versa; the dischord between your behavior and your interior experience; the feeling that you're not very good at being ADHD (I'm actually jealous of the people who burn through a million hobbies!); the misunderstanding (and consequent frustration) that comes from thinking that if you were AuDHD, you would embody those traits in isolation of each other.  I've been poking around in the AuDHD space for a little while now having started to suspect it applied to me, but this is the first explanation of it that specifically counters the logic I've been using to convince myself it doesn't apply to me. I now feel entirely certain it applies to me.

I returned to college a few years ago, before I was diagnosed, to finish the undergradate degree I failed to originally complete (for reasons I now thankfully understand), and I began to receive accommodations as a result, but I've been shocked by how little those accommodations have benefitted me. I see now how that is because they're designed for those on either side of the ADHD/Autism fence, not those that straddle it. People clearly don't realize how distinctly different our needs are. I've had a difficult time successfully meeting my professors' expectations and the traditional scripts for self-advocacy have never felt like they truly reflected the way I experience learning. Going my entire life undiagnosed has forced me to be assiduously self-reflective about how I work best, though, so I've been able half-way decently explain myself, but the language you have provided here is going to significantly help me do so with much more confidence and clarity, so thank you! If you ever have a mind to deep dive into the challenges facing students with AuDHD, please feel free to hit me up. I would love to be able to offload what I've experienced and observed to someone who could do something with it!

Great job of explaining AuDHD! I was just recently diagnosed with Autism, over 20 years after my ADHD diagnosis at age 20. Finally I'm starting to understand how my brain works.

I'm 57 years old. Diagnosed ADHD decades ago. My ASD diagnosis is only last August. I know you are just starting out, so I'm sending support! Keep it going, you're doing great work here!

I had 5 hours of testing about 3 weeks ago. I find out the Psychologist's conclusions in 10 days. I suspected either Autism or CPTSD but they already told ne I tested strongly for ADHD. This video ABSOLUTELY made it all fall into place for me! No wonder I feel crazy most of the tine, like there is a tug of war and how I can feel like one person tiday and someone so diffeeent tomorrow!!!

Honestly I’m undiagnosed but I feel like I’ve spent so much time BLOVIATING trying to give descriptive detailed accounts of how I feel. All of a sudden after researching this I feel like I see a group of people who understand me. Tbh I mainly arrived here bc AI suggested the prompt after I spent time trying to find psychological terms for what happens in my brain. Thank you for this. Idk if this is 100% accurate for me since I’m undiagnosed but this information brings me great comfort and helps me navigate all of this

Wow, you started with the very question that has been bugging me for months! I'm now in the middle of an evaluation for neurodivergence, I am obsessed with learning about ADHD and ASD, watching a ton of videos and worrying that my psychologist will decide that I am not neurodivergent, because I don't really fit in the boxes. So everything you said makes a lot of sense to me.
