In this video I give you an update on what happened after my accident with the Makita grease gun. Seven days in hospital, two operations, and a long road ahead. I also want to use this video to warn anyone who owns this machine, because what happened to me was completely avoidable and it is a known issue. (ours is the: Makita DGP180 with serial number 41464 R)

On a positive note, two of my friends both now retired mechanics suffered exactly the same injury as yours and both needed to have surgery where the grease was flushed out of their hands etc and both were able to return to work and they both carried on as normal with no lasting damage and problems. On the Bright side you aren't Dead. Which is a blessing. June 25th I lost an argument with a 4"/120mm electric cutting disc. Nearly severed my left arm between shoulder and elbow. Just missing the main artery .
Nearly died 9 hours surgery 5 day's in Drogheda Trauma hospital.
250 steel staples Im now fully recovered. I am a retired Irishman.
With all hydrolic and air tools observe the manufacturers recommend instructions Safety Clothes must be Worn including Stout Robust Gloves.
Retired Irish Rail Maintenance Craftsman.

I will continue to keep all of you in my prayers. I can’t imagine the frustration you’re feeling. But you can still create content. Even if it’s a day in the life currently both for you and your wife. Why not see the family and inside POV of your house ( how you can manage, with your children, household chores in/out of the home, cooking, cleaning, shopping etc.) People on here are not just hard core farmers/builders/tinkerers/mechanics…we are also women some have families of their own and like to watch the management of the household! 😊

It’s called a recall, and companies try to avoid ever having to admit a recall. Hope you have a speedy recovery. Maybe you can take us on day outings and show us the neighbourhood

Hi Philippe, I am happy to see you're out of the hospital and back home.
I would seriously consider taking legal action against Makita and/or the retailer. The defect was a known issue and a recall had been issued, yet customers were never notified. Their responsibility for your accident is hard to dispute, and you would have strong grounds to claim damages and legal costs.
