There were two villains, but by the end of the film the audience generally recognizes two villains, Billy, of course, but the other villain was Dr. Chilton, who was Lector’s guest at the end. Lector does many horrible things but with a certain grace.
Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director and Best Screenplay (adapted), only the third movie to win all five major categories when it came out. 😊
8:30 I love this observation so much! I think you're exactly right, from behind the glass Hannibal is "consuming" parts of Starling in a way that's not unlike his literal cannibalism. Great insight!
16:30 I always did feel sorry for the cat. First, it sees its servant taken away, and then, after several days of starvation, its servant comes back with an (ugh) ugly, smelly dog.
Hey Kim, For the majority of his time on screen, Lecter is either in a cell or in restraints, but it always feels like he is in absolute control of the situation and the people he is interacting with. ———- One of my favorite things about this movie. It gives it such as suspense level as opposed to a horror feel. ———- We can't see what Hannibal can do, because he's imprisoned, we just know it.
Remember Kim, when Clarice said Hannibal would not attack her. "He would consider that rude" ------- Many of Hannibal's crimes were based on people that offended him. ------- Similar to a character in the movie, No Country for old men" check it out.
Lecter thanked Clarice and let her live because she was his redemption. She opened up to him and he helped her "heal" her trauma. She, in turn, used him to ascend in the FBI ranks. They helped each other and used each other to escape their "prisons."
My first viewing of one your reactions and you are a revelation. So much spirit and enthusiasm! Love it. Watched this film for the first time in the nineties while working as an assistant manager at a movie theater. The theater had closed and we would load up new movies on the projector at midnight because we had movie prints early (35 millimeter prints in the old days) before digital. I knew nothing of this film along with my coworkers. When Hannibal rips the face off in the ambulance I jumped out of my seat. First and only in my movie watching history! I think I adore you….
