At 29.53 the farrier is my grandfather George Mills. Sadly passed away 2 years ago. So many stories he told about the good ole days. Wonderful to see this. Brings a lot of joy. We have a set of racing plates from grey dove and red dove that my grandfather made for both.

There's something wonderful about a man working his farm in a suit jacket  and tie!!!

I love the way he says blacksmith.  Farrier came into use later .

Listen how much bird song there was back in the day lovely to hear

Really enjoyed this. The days when some working farmers had a few horses and probably go back to the roots of steeple chasing. Great watch

Really enjoyed this, went to work for the Price famaly in 1992-3 with  Flakey Dove

Thank you so much for uploading this. My Uncle was racecourse manager at Ludlow when I was young and I remember this film being made and watching it when originally transmitted. My Uncle and Aunt are still alive but sadly neither of them are in the best of health however I have sent the link for this to their son in law and I hope they enjoy seeing it.

I have been hoping that this particular Living On The Land would be uploaded. As we had the family connection to Ludlow Racecourse I spent a lot of time there as a child/ teenager and it gave me my love of horse racing. I still go to meetings there when I get the chance and often say thst it is like going back home. The layout of the course is exactly how I remember it from back then.

Very enjoyable story!  I was glad that they considered the mare, and didn't push her too hard with the weight she carried in the last race; and they also didn't want to risk her being harmed in further races!  She did very well, considering her age.  I also appreciated their good sportsmanship of losing, remembering they has also enjoyed winning!  Good sportsmanship is not too common these days.  --They had a pretty good life back then, when we could still enjoy life on earth.  It was very hard work, no doubt, but there is nothing better than "Living on the land"!  Thanks for sharing.

Loved this Family Story so genuine!

Lovely story    I thoroughly enjoyed watching every minute of it. They worked so hard and still had enthusiasm and consistency to rear and train these beautiful thoroughbreds.    Total admiration for the family who dedicated their all for their dream. Thank you for sharing ❤

What a beautiful story and love everything abaout it

The dove family did so well. Ken Grainger commentating at Ludlow

How amazing to see this! A family farm and a family that worked together for the benefit of all. Why we should not lose the support of family farms inherited.
Wonderful countryside.

I have been around the horse world for more than 60 of my 65 years of life and I must say that although it isn't unheard of,  breaking young horses out in the open field... Hmmm all I can say is more power to ya!! Personally I like to start with a more "confined" area less chance of injury to both horse and rider
But this is a good video I enjoyed it very much!
Thank you for sharing ❤

Seeing them with the young mare was painful to watch. That's just me.

Grey Dove was a childhood fav of mine and I remember watching this when it was first broadcast. I also followed all her foals when they raced from the first to the last. The last was called Dextra Dove who won 19 races in total in the 1990s.Great to see this again and thanks so much for posting it. Hope you dont mind ive posted links to this video on various horse racing groups on facebook.

I loved everything about this program, the nostalgia, the countryside, the old family farm but best of all Grey Dove. I was a Red Rum and Dessie fan growing up. My Dad was a big racing fan and lived for picking the horses and watching on telly on a Saturday. I hope Grey Dove went on to have foals and Cecil got his Christmas Dinners 😂

Gray Dove has a great big bright eye. And pricked ears.

This is wonderful. Thank you for sharing.

Beautiful grey dove
