King Midas if he turned things into TM23 instead of gold:

how do you keep finding these

After losing to a swimmer trainer twice, the trainer Red suffers depression and gives up, preferring to wander around the Kanto region without ever pursuing his dream again.

So we went from getting softlocked on one tile to being stuck in a small area then to “the entire kanto region is your softlock”

OOPS!! All TM23!!!!

Behold, the Dragon Ragequit softlock

The year is 3035.

Pikasprey’s futurama head- hello former internet users. I found a new softlock in a 1040 year old video game.

Every Pikasprey softlock is personalized. They're all equally painful.

When the Player name is Asprey, it’s never “one of the most normal saves you’ve ever seen.”

If you're curious, these are called glitch "meta-map" scripts. Normal meta-map scripts are used to set-up cutscenes and certain roadblocks. For instance, Prof. Oak stopping you from venturing into the tall grass is controlled by Pallet Town's meta-map script, as is the grumpy old guy who wants his coffee in Viridian. The current meta-map script for every map is stored in the save file. Can't have the player saving and reloading to bypass Prof. Oak giving them their starter, now! Also, changing from one map script to another is handled by... the current meta-map script! So if the current meta-map script doesn't have a piece of code going something like "alright switch to map-script 5 when the GOTSTARTER flag is set" the map will just be stuck on the current map-script, forever.

When you load up an invalid meta-map script, it can do literally anything. The most common one is the laggy walking seen in the video, caused by the glitch map script executing a bunch of useless commands that do nothing but put load on the CPU. The other most common effect is horribly crashing the game.  This one just happens to have a particularly interesting effect on your third item slot.

With this TM's acquisition, the thread of prophecy is severed.  Restore a saved game to restore the weave of fate, or persist in the doomed world you have created.

Despite all my Dragon Rage, the entire region is still my cage.

When you're waiting for your punishment and Pikasprey walks into the room:

Dragon Rage deleting key ítems like how it deletes pokémon in the pika cup in pokémon stadium.

The item transmutation occurs because in this variation of the Trainer-Fly glitch, the game actually starts executing definitions for trainer encounter textboxes as code.

One of these trainer textboxes, when executed as code, happens to erroneously write the stack pointer to D321, which is the second item's stack byte. The stack pointer is two bytes, so the second byte of the stack pointer gets written to D322, or the third item's type.

If you use the effect of an effect like the glitch item 9F to push the stack pointer down, you could transmute the item into other items, though mostly only to other TMs as pushing the stack further too far will just crash the game.

A lot of the other trainer encounter textboxes actually do something very similar too, but their writes are in other areas and aren't as visible.

TM23, there was a whole movie about this with Jim Carrey

It is legitimately crazy to learn about a new Gen 1 glitch after all these years; great video!

at this point just let this man design prisons

Never in my life was I expecting to see Gen 1 throw an error message. That's the most baffling thing in this video!
