About Eto still being alive, you said you personally believe that she is dead however it is heavily implied that Eto is alive. In the final panel, we see a cup of coffee and it is implied that this is the cup the Yoshimura had kept saved for Eto all these years. Its a great conclusion to her character as we see her finally accepting part of herself in how her father 'left her behind' from her perspective as a child.

kaneki wasn’t a unreliable narrator it’s pretty realistic that his mind blocked out the trauma of being abused as a child and only remembered the good things

6:57 tokyo ghoul & parasyte get compared a lot because both anime came out around the same time, and were both about mild-mannered students suddenly getting partially turned into something inhuman. it was pretty easy for the anime fans of the time to draw parallels!

I never speculated that Jason might have SAed Kaneki, but I’m also surprised that I have never seen people talk about the Torso and Donato. I always speculated that the torso SAed Mutsuki after dismembering her and Donato SAed orphans in the church before and/or after eating them.

Tokyo Ghoul is a very dark manga but DAMN the last part of the iceberg was insane

kaneki being an unreliable narrator is intentional, him not remembering his mother as abusive at first si something that happens, a selective memory, him being a single son raised only by his mother who was sometimes really kinds and sometimes really harsh, your brain filters out the bad memories,creates an angel image of mom even tho the effects of the abuse stays, and since his mom died early, he was never able to propperly reflect on the abuse.

this is something I experience myself, all I describbed applies to me as well and I'm unable to remember anything bad my mom has done before I was 12, even tho I'm 100% sure they happened, specially because I was very afraid of doing any missbehaviour more than a normal child would

I’ve heard about the series back in 2015 and had friends that were obsessed with Kaneki. My brother also is a huge fan and has the first two books, so a few weeks ago I started reading and I’ve just finally finished. It’s amazing. However, I didn’t like the pacing in the first like 60 chapters of :re, I struggled with keeping up with all of the new characters, also couldn’t tell who was who cus sometimes some characters looked the same ish???
I made a list of predictions while reading, given all of the clues etc, and like 99% came true.
Idk why but I couldn’t care less about Kaneki. I just don’t really like him, the same goes to most of the characters. In fact, I didn’t care about anyone but Juzo and Amon. Suzuya has become my favourite character ever and my heart skipped a bit every time his “death” was shown.
I even got that first artbook, I love it. Btw, early sketches of Juzo are awful lol.
Solid 9/10 for me. I haven’t finished the anime (I’m almost done with season 3) yet, but from I’ve heard from my friends and ppl on the internet - it’s trash, so my expectations are low.
