Long after the time of Musa عليه السلام, Bani Isra'il asked their Prophet for a king. When Allah سبحانه وتعالى chose Talut, many of them objected — he was not wealthy enough, and he did not match the kind of ruler they expected. So they were given a sign: al-Tabut would return to them, and the angels would carry it.
This video examines what the Qur'an actually says about that Ark — and, just as importantly, where our certainty has to stop.
Allah سبحانه وتعالى tells us that within it was sakinah from their Lord, together with a remnant of what the family of Musa and the family of Harun عليهما السلام had left behind. The Qur'an names no list of objects. It gives no measurements. It says nothing about where the Tabut went afterward, and nothing about anyone in our time knowing its location. Every detail beyond that comes from tafsir reports — and in this video those reports are clearly separated from what is established, rather than mixed into it.
IN THIS VIDEO
• Why Bani Isra'il asked for a king, and what their request revealed about them
• Why some of them rejected Talut, and how their Prophet answered the objection
• What the Qur'an says was inside the Tabut — and what it deliberately leaves unnamed
• What "sakinah" actually means, and what it is not
• Why the Ark was a sign from Allah سبحانه وتعالى, never an object with power of its own
• The test at the river, and the du'a made before the battle

QUR'AN
• Surah al-Baqarah 2:246 — Bani Isra'il ask their Prophet for a king, and their Prophet warns them about turning away once fighting is prescribed
• Surah al-Baqarah 2:247 — Talut is appointed; the objection about wealth; Allah سبحانه وتعالى increased him in knowledge and stature
• Surah al-Baqarah 2:248 — the central verse: the Tabut returns as the sign of his kingship, containing sakinah from their Lord and a remnant left by the family of Musa and the family of Harun عليهما السلام, carried by the angels
• Surah al-Baqarah 2:249 — the test at the river, and the reminder that many a small group has overcome a large group by the permission of Allah سبحانه وتعالى
• Surah al-Baqarah 2:250 — the du'a of the believers before Jalut
• Surah al-Baqarah 2:251 — Dawud عليه السلام kills Jalut and is granted kingship and wisdom
• Surah al-Anfal 8:10 and Surah Aal 'Imran 3:126 — victory is only from Allah سبحانه وتعالى
• Surah al-Fath 48:4 — Allah سبحانه وتعالى sends down sakinah into the hearts of the believers so that they increase in faith
• Surah at-Tawbah 9:40 — Allah سبحانه وتعالى sends down His sakinah
HADITH
• The descent of sakinah during the recitation of the Qur'an — narrated by al-Bara' ibn 'Azib رضي الله عنه: a man was reciting Surah al-Kahf with his horse tethered beside him, a cloud descended and drew nearer, and the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم said that it was the sakinah which had descended because of the Qur'an.
Sahih al-Bukhari, no. 5011 — Sahih Muslim, no. 795. Both are authentic (sahih).
• A closely related incident is narrated from Usayd ibn Hudayr رضي الله عنه while he was reciting Surah al-Baqarah.
Sahih al-Bukhari, no. 5018 — Sahih Muslim, no. 796.
TAFSIR AND COMMENTARY (SUNNI SOURCES)
• Tafsir Ibn Kathir رحمه الله, on Surah al-Baqarah 2:246–251 — including the report transmitted from Ibn 'Abbas رضي الله عنهما that the angels came carrying the Tabut between the heaven and the earth until they placed it before Talut, and the differing reports of the early mufassirun regarding what the remnants were (the staff of Musa عليه السلام, fragments of the Tablets, a vessel of manna, and other reported items). These are transmitted explanations, not matters established at the level of sahih hadith.
• Tafsir al-Tabari رحمه الله (Jami' al-Bayan), on Surah al-Baqarah 2:248 — collects the same early reports, with their differences preserved rather than harmonised.
• Tafsir al-Qurtubi رحمه الله (al-Jami' li-Ahkam al-Qur'an), on Surah al-Baqarah 2:248 — discussion of al-Tabut and of the meaning of sakinah.
• Ibn Hajar al-'Asqalani رحمه الله, Fath al-Bari — commentary on the sakinah hadith, in the Book of the Virtues of the Qur'an, chapter on the descent of sakinah and the angels at the recitation of the Qur'an.

A NOTE ON METHOD
Everything stated in this video as confirmed comes from the Qur'an or from authentic hadith.
The identification of specific objects said to be inside the Tabut comes from reports transmitted by the classical mufassirun. Those reports differ with one another, and no authentic hadith establishes a complete inventory of the Ark's contents. They are presented in this video as transmitted explanations only, and never as settled fact.
