I built a potato-powered betta tank

So in this video, I tried turning a normal potato into a natural filter for a 5 gallon ecosystem. The idea was to suspend the potato above the tank and let the roots grow down into the water to absorb nutrients and help keep the tank clean.

Honestly, this started as a random idea… but once the roots started growing, the whole ecosystem actually came to life.

Outstanding project. Did not think the regular Potato would be so ahead vs the sweet potato!. 🥔🍠 . Keep up the great work . Can’t wait to see the Five Beta project in the future !!

I put two sweet potatoes in my Sump tank.
After less than a week they were sprouting roots and growing leaves.
Then a week later they had white mush on the submerged part.
I took them out and the potato had become soft and mushy inside, i binned them.

Any ideas what happened
