Please ask questions if something isn't understandable, the structure of this video changed a lot and I understand if it's confusing

Link and video chapters are in the description too in case they stop working again

I'd also argue that groove is a lot harder to maintain when your mind-body connection isn't in tune, so malnourished idols (which is probably even more than we assume) have less chances of developing it

These idols are designed to 'memorize' choreos, no 'feels'. Many of them do not have any passion in dancing and it shows. You could always spot the difference between those who really love to dance and who do not.

I think this is kind of controversial but a lot of kpop idols don't actually have good musicality. It's part of the reason why sometimes their dancing looks awkward even though they're technically doing all the steps as they were to be executed. add this to the fact that many idols just don't have the muscle strength to properly execute their choreographies because of how it's all about aesthetics, and many of them will not train to a degree where those muscles will be developed.

This great focus on synchronization in the kpop industry has also impacted fans who started dancing with kpop covers. As someone who started dancing because of kpop, I have picked up a lot of “idol-like” habits that have greatly affected my ability to groove and give different styles its authentic feel. Though I’ve been taking groove more seriously, I still have those “limited” feels in me. Great video!

The was made clear in Street Woman Fighter, especially the last season. The Korean looked lackluster next to the overseas crews.

Actually gasped when I saw the side by side comparisons

Another problem is that kpop is very trend focused so even if we're starting to see more groove in choreos we don't know if this gonna last or if they'll go back to the perfect sychronised style we saw with gfriend, infinite, seventeen etc.

A lot of the Korean choreographers dance the same way as the idols. There's one choreographer that comes to mind, doesn't have an once of groove and the idols they teach dance the same stiff way. Don't think they can learn groove when the choreographers are the same.

as a brazilian the first clip of sunghoon has me dying haha he looks so stiff there 😭 still love him

I am glad to see that Momo is working alone to widen her dance skills

This is why I have a good hearty laugh every time K-pop fans complain about "overdancing" from certain artists... often times it's the presence of "groove" that inspires the accusation!

5:46 i wish i remembered where he said this but i remember changbin saying jyp dance trainers would mark him lower because he would incorporate groove into the dances they were practicing and they didn't like it because they want more uniformity.

Feedback on the video if you wanted any: i loved the inclusion of so many professional dancers with their names and crew on screen. The text to speech is also easier than pausing to read.

No other feedback, just love this channel and the thought behind it seeing the technical side of dancing made me jump back into it. I haven’t danced since dubsmash went down but you reignited an interest.

i always appreciate you trying to educate kpop fans on dance. it’s really needed imo. i can’t stand kpop fans trying to critique dance from a purely kpop lens. stuff like when choreographers make combos to kpop songs and fans tell them they’re doing it wrong, or when kpop fans give their opinions on dance crews but it’s clearly only based on what they know from kpop…

i was thinking that groove in dancing is lost because of syncronization and the pace they are creating new groups nowadays. kpop choreos are like the dance's world clean look.

This kind of reminds me of how students in Asia learn: from memorization. Sure anyone can be a dancer if they practice the steps but if the understanding isn't there then it's missing the mark.

Loved this video! This is also why Kany is so incredibly important as a choreographer and tv personality in Korea - she makes an active effort to educate about the root of Afro moves which prevents them from being appropriated out of context. Love ur work <3

I think, could definitely be wrong, but there's the people that love to dance vs people learning steps/routines for their job.

Thank you for making a video about this. I saw all the criticism over WDA's choreo, and people don't get why it looks awkward. I didn't understand why I didn't see what other people saw, and it's because I focused on Karina and Ningning when I saw the dance practice, who are the less tense dancers in aespa, and it's not Giselle or Winter's fault; they just weren't trained for that kind of dance style.
