A perfect sunday afternoon movie.

This movie has a soundtrack by John Barry which is fantastic

It's actually a pretty good film, but the discovery of the real Titanic not long afterwards just destroyed even watching the film. It was almost big at the time, but...

In 1980 I met the Raise the Titanic cameraman who shot the water tank model in Malta - asked him what it was like and he said “Nobody’s gonna believe that crap”.

Clive Cussler hated this movie so much that he refused to allow the sale of any movie rights for his other Dirk Pitt novels. Twenty years later, he finally agreed to sell the rights to three other novels. The first to be filmed was Sahara (2005), which Cussler also hated.

I recommend the book. It's more of a story then the movie is.

You've got entirely the wrong Grade photos at the end. That's Michael Grade, still very much alive.

The scene in which Titanic arrived at the surface brought a tear to my eye, but the rest of the film was dull as dishwater.

John Barry's main theme makes me weep. Beautiful music.

2026 and i still Enjoy this Movie.....seen it So many Times..

Gotta say I absolutely loved this movie as a kid and ive watched it many times since

It's still one of my favourite films to sit and just enjoy. And I love John Barry's score.😊

I saw this,I was 11 and I LOVED IT!! Another favorite sunken ship movie
Goliath Awaits

I love this movie made even better by the presence of John Barry's excellent film score.

The soundtrack and scenes where the ship enters the Hudson makes this film for me

I love what Lew Grade said about it "it would have been cheaper to lower the Atlantic!"

The scene where the miniature is filmed close up ruins the magic. A major drawback of pre-CGI movies is that you can't miniaturize water. The massive water droplets give it away.

Sunday afternoon movie as I was growing up in the 90s/00s

A lot of people would be shocked to know what happens to expensive, meticulously crafted props and scale models like the one of the Titanic. They are often dumped in corners of the studio lot, maybe under a tarp, maybe not, left to be beaten on by winter rains and at all other times pummeled by the Cali sun. They rust, they flake, they get rammed by forklifts and pickup trucks, etc. etc. I've seen it with my own eyes and it's pretty sad. In some instances they will get stolen or sold off to be restored by a private collector or a museum, which is the occasional happy ending. But a lot of times they are forgotten & the people who know where they are retire, paperwork gets lost, and that's that. Eventually hauled out as garbage.

Raise The Titanic was an excellent movie…..it may not have followed the novel exactly but it was a lot better than most movies of those days!!!!

Goddamn can’t we just use real people to narrate. Jfc. Patrick McGooHAN.
