I had a friend describe quidditch as watching a basketball game then a player catches a frog in the parking lot and the game stops

Harry’s hero complex may be annoying at times, but I find it pretty realistic given what he’s been through. Also, he doesn’t like being the hero for glory or personal gain, but rather because he thinks in the moment that’s the right thing to do.

"The Child Curse sucks" That's not even a hot take; that's a statement

Cho and Harry's relationship started at the worst time, when they were both teenagers suffering from PTSD. They were both immature and did and said stupid things, particularly on their date in Hogsmeade.

I feel bad for Cho because she has the worst friends. When Cedric died, all of her friends abandoned her except Marietta, so of course she felt very loyal to her despite the fact she was willing to turn even Cho in. I hope she eventually managed to find more supportive friends.

Barty Couch making sure his son did time for his crime is not a bad father.

In defence of Sirius, he had 12 years of not being able to live and only being able to think about his life before Azkaban. If you consider that, he only really lived for 24 years, and the first 11 of those years were spent at a terrible home. While, Snape lived an entire life that he could reflect on, 30+ years while Sirius rlly only had 13ish

I have never understood why Harry named his son after Snape like it doesn’t make sense

When my dad read the books back in the day, he said that with Quidditch and the triwizard tournament you can realise that JK Rowling is not really into sports, and probably didn’t watch a lot of live sports

10:42 Are we just going to ignore how Hagrid was intimidated by the near execution of Buckbeak? He wasn’t doing boring lessons because he couldn’t do anything interesting, he did them because they were safe (or at least in his eyes)

2:17 and that is why Helga was the best of the four; she was willing to teach every children and humble enough to not impose her vision on anybody 🦡❤

Everything bad that Lupin does is rooted in a deeply held fear of connection and internalised guilt about his condition. He makes a lot of bad decisions and can be something of a coward but he’s not a bad person

As a Slytherin, I have to stand up for Xenophilius, he was an okay dad. Encouraging Luna to believe in things that everyone else thought were made-up wasn't that problematic, given that nearly everything muggles thought was made-up was known to be real by magical people. His worst sin was really that he didn't work with Harry to save Luna, instead trusting the Death Eaters to keep their worthless word, risking getting them all killed.

For your take about Arthur, I do agree with you that Arthur is a great father and probably the best in the series, but I also want to shout out Hagrid’s father.

Despite being a regular sized human compared to both Hagrid and Hagrid’s mother, he still loved Hagrid so much and took great care of him.

Meh I still think Lupin is the best DADA teacher, he managed to bring Neville out of his shell and he also taught Harry one of his signature spells that is above the NEWT level in difficulty, especially conjuring a fully corporeal Patronus. I feel like Harry emulated Lupin's teaching style the most during the DA lessons in book 5.

A teacher nearly TORTURING a student is indeed evil.

@NolanGillen-f3s 10 months ago

Okay but Harry genuinely though that the others in the 2nd task could die, he didn’t think critically in the moment because he was under duress

@mellow3995 10 months ago

I think you're quite hard on Lupin, I'm not surprised he didn't wish to create friction in his friend group because it's likely the first group of close friends he's ever had. His fear and loathing of his condition causes him to act irrationally for sure, but you can understand why he's acting that way. I think he's a well written good character with some complex shades of grey mixed in.

23:40 there is a difference between snape and sirius because sirius was locked up in a prison for 12 years with demantors to torture him. Meanwhile snape was living a respectful life as a hogwarts teacher. Sirius had trauma and snape was literally going through what he had done to himself.

Umbridge didn't know Harry would survive the Dementors as she didn't know he could produce a patronus. She definitely wanted him to get the Dementors kiss.
